Nice!
I saw Tromeo And Juliette at a film festival in York late 90's, half the audience left early doors when they realised that this wasn't quite the film they were expecting 🤣

I bet!

He was genuinely a lovely bloke. The blokes with the puppers were, I think, working on a live puppet version of one of his movies, and he was happy to chat to them and pose for photos.

Watched 28 years later the bone temple yesterday, possibly the best film I've ever seen about a marauding gang of Jimmy Savile lookalikes.

Freaky Takes (2024) - 6/10 - Four different stories set in Oakland, California in 1987. The characters however are interwoven across each with a culmination in all coming together at the climax (no pun intended!). Captures the 80's vibe really well including dodgy VHS quality start. It's a bit clichéd in some of the plot and quality of the acting but perhaps this is deliberate. It probably lends itself to the feel although the end feels more like Tarantino inspired! I like anthology movies and this was OK for any easy watch without being anything special.

I Swear
A true tale about a young lad from Scotland with Tourettes. Exceptionally moving, funny at times and life affirming. Best film I've seen for ages. 10/10

Marty Supreme
Decent but quite a slight story. Timothy Chalamat is clearly a brilliant actor but the film didn't match up to the hype. 6/10
I Swear excellent film .The lad who plays the leading role is class. 10/10 well worth a couple of hours of your time

Got MUBI for a quid for 3 months. Watched Pavements. Utterly bizarre, like three projects rolled into one. Watching Dog and Robot now. What a cracking little film.

Burnt (2015)

Bradley Cooper plays a chef hated and respected in equal measure, who travels to London in search of his third Michelin star. Sienna Miller leads a supporting cast tasked with working alongside him. A strange little film all things considered. I liked it when at its best but there’s some very weak dialogue moments.

6/10

Highway 13 (1948)

Robert Lowery is a trucker who works for a company that is going to the wall. Loads of trucks are flying off mountainsides in a series of ‘accidents’. He has to investigate what the real cause is before he gets blamed himself.

Hyper-B sub-hour yarn with acting that never rises above ‘ok’ and a story that has more holes than a group orgy. Yet, strangely compelling as a simple thriller with a sharp focus.

5/10

Murder Without Crime (1950)

Derek Farr rows with his lass and they both threaten to play away. She doesn’t, but he does. Sort of. He bails at the last second, but the woman still ends up in his flat. There’s a struggle and he accidentally kills her. He hides the body in an ottoman and waits for his wife to return. His potless landlord, Dennis Price, hears the disturbance and begins to probe.

The stage play origins are very visible, but I think this is a smart, engaging B flick. Apart from a couple of moments of cringeworthy overacting, Farr and Price play off each other beautifully. Farr really starts to crack under the pressure, and Price is hammy in a deliciously snake-like fashion. There’s some snappy monologues and verbal duelling throughout. The story is a bit daft really, and doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, but if you can suspend disbelief, it’s worth a watch just to enjoy the two leads revelling in their caricatures.

7/10

There's a half decent 90 minute sci fi action movie hidden in the latest Avatar flick, shame it is hard to find in the other 16 hours of shite.

It blows my mind that they sell f@cking popcorn at the cinema - I had to watch the latest quiet place with some priock crunching that the entire time....most of the film is silent. I usualyy work out where to sit based on how far I can be from everyone else
And fooking nachos ffs.
