I could see some kind of "solidarity" payment scheme. We activate his buyout with the agreement that he then goes to Liverpool for 5mil (or something) more than his buyout.

Part of our attraction is the way we do right by players. It's a bit of an untangible selling point for the club, but I think important to try and get a replacement. If we fail, hopefully he'll see we tried and accept we revisit it in the summer.

It's a fair point mind. He absolutely should have played more than Hume.

That's not a dig before anyone starts, Geertruida is just better and Liverpool wanting him in to play RB primarily says it all on that one.

Can't blame the lad for wanting away in a World Cup year when Slot comes calling for him again and at Liverpool, when he is not a first choice player here, but regardless of all of that he was ours until the summer if we wanted to keep him and everyone involved (player, Leipzig and Liverpool) should have been told to suck it up.

This "do right by the player" stuff was understandable in the Championship but not so much when we in the PL ourselves and especially not when it involves a player who covers so many positions for us and again when Xhaka is still out for weeks.

Are we expecting Liverpool might do us a favour in the future, because let's be honest, they absolutely won't.

What if we got Chiesa?
 
You can't make the assumption that had we signed him for 18million then Liverpool would be knocking at our door with a 30-40 million offer. Its because he is on loan to us, and therefore a minimal outlay that he is attractive to them

That's not what RLB thinks. Liverpool might want him as a RB but that's because their other two RBs are out injured, third choice at both clubs then.
 
It’ll be a such a shame to lose such a versatile player who is clearly good enough for this level, we’ll struggle to find an alternative for a similar fee as we could have paid in the summer.

The timing with the Xhaka couldn’t be worse as he is the only obvious like for like replacement
 
I think it's fair. He was at a good club but didn't play there and came on loan to start matches in his strong position. We can't offer him that because we have a better RB, so we're letting him try at another club.
We get our compensation money and that's that.
I trust Ghisolfi to bring another good CM.

CB - Alderete better
DM - Xhaka better
CM - Sadiki better

Realistically doesn't play much, and he won't be happy being a bit part player at our club.

Quick glance on social media and you'd think Liverpool were getting Cafu they way they're going on. In for a big shock when he's upfield just jogging back when they're getting broke on.
