Geertruida

Shows how good our recruitment is when we're identifying and signing players good enough for Liverpool. Question mark around how the lad has been managed on a day to day basis mind, but we'll never know for sure.

Could definitely be Xhaka’s absence. But could also be due to the general lack of solidity in midfield with only Enzo and Sadiki in there. Could also be that Reg just overcomplicated things.

Was definitely overcomplicated. But playing a Midfield of Mundle, Le Fee, Sadiki and Hume just isnt good enough at this level.

Mayenda up top essentially trying to play 442 where Hume folds in against an in form West Ham side was football suicide for me.

Too many players not quite at the right level, not enough experience, quality of strength.

Bizarre set up last week and unnecessary

I think he’s been managed fine. By the reports he’s been speaking to them for a while, which is why he hasn’t been involved.
Something has definitely happened last few weeks or so
Yep

So you just let players go making it harder for yourself in the meantime?

As if it really matters when it comes to signing players from clubs - clubs do what matters for them at the time. And if it's not right for us or we can't replace him, he doesn't go.

Are Liverpool going easy now thinking about us?

Yep. We would need a suitable replacement for midfield if he goes to Anfield. Great if we have someone lined up, and, Liverpool can effectively cover the fees involved. If not, then they can get fucked.

Gives us a £12m profit, as it's all in the same season. If we're signing players of 4/5 year contracts that's £48-60m headroom.
That side of things changes a bit with SCR no? Plus the idea of headroom is a bit of a misnomer as we’d have to find another £12m profit next season to cover the incomings if we maxed them out anyway. It’s just kicking the can down the road.

It's not necessarily about favours. It's about having a seat at the negotiation tables when the next time Sunderland want a player from these clubs. If you make their life more difficult (when I don't see what gain Sunderland would get by keeping him when he clearly would jump at the opportunity) then when it comes to bargaining in the future Sunderland won't have a leg to stand on. As the saying goes: choose your battles wisely. This only impacts Sunderland positively or negatively.
We have no special seat at the negotiating table though do we? If Liverpool have a rising star we want, they keep him. If they have a great player not suited for them that they don't mind moving on, is wanted by Sunderland and Arsenal, but Arsenal offer £10,000,000 more than us, they go to Arsenal.

Absolutely not. There can be reason - we'll let him go with our blessing when we've found a suitable replacement (and fair compensation).

As I've mentioned multiple times, having a good rapport gets you at the negotiation table for future players. Liverpool won't necessarily make it "easier" for Sunderland but they can sure as hell make it harder to purchase future players from them. (Same applies to Leipzig and Chelsea).

I think you're over estimating the rapport you need or how far clubs will go. Be fair with players of course and we do. but for instance if Liverpool have someone for sale during the summer and Newcastle meet the asking price, the rapport they don't have after the Isak shit will mean nothing. Just like it meant nothing when Man United kept taking Spurs top players or Keane and McCarthy dealt with each other over players.

Money and getting the deal done will. We need to look after ourselves not some future potential possible deals.

Will obviously be why he didn't play against West Ham then.

Frustrating to put ourselves in a position of having to play Hume in CM with a perfectly capable CM on the bench whilst the club know full well he's agreeing a deal to Liverpool in the background. We're also leaving a big gap in CM tomorrow without him, as he obviously would have started if this hadn't been going on.

This "doing right by the player" and "not standing in his way due to the scale of the opportunity" stuff needs to stop now like. It was understandable in the Championship but we're in amongst it in the PL now.

We're losing a player who can play RB, CB and CM to a decent level in the top division and obviously won't be signing 3 players to cover his absence by the deadline. It's also totally avoidable as there's no break clause, so he should have been told he's staying here until the summer.
