Geertruida

If he wanted away before Brentford then he would have been touted and gone by now, whatever suits your agenda.
At the end of the Liverpool away game Slot and Gertruida were having a long old conversation. Maybe he started tapping him up at that point

I will say there is no guarantee we could sign him this window. There is every chance the permanent clause doesn’t activate until the end of the season.

I have a hunch this has been on the cards for a while and is the reason for his lack of playing time. Wouldn’t be surprised to see us do a similar thing with guiu and brobbey

What a f***ing own goal this is from us.

£20 mil for a guy that can play 3 positions

Should have been more involved
100% this.
its not just a case of us finding 1 player to replace. I've not seen many players that can adapt so well to numerous positions. Gerty has been class all year.

This is a huge opportunity for Sunderland to sign him, slap a huge release fee on his head, and let other PL clubs know that we arent going to be 1 season wonders and selling all of our assets, as soon as other clubs come knocking.

No agenda, it didn’t make sense that he didn’t play against West Ham, which I said earlier in the thread , so the only explanation is he wanted to be away as it’s not down to capabilities. The fact is he’s a right back/centre half by trade and can do a job in centre mid as we have seen. He’s behind Hume and Nordi at right back abs behind Ballard, Alderete and Nordi at centre half - a tough ask for anyone the way they have been playing. For all we know he might not be happy to fill in at centre mid when needed, and when we have players fit he’s not gonna get in above them in that position so he either fights for his natural positions or decides he doesn’t want to fight for his place and goes

If he’s just doing the rb/rm hybrid, that’ll be absolutely fine. He’s done that well every time he’s been asked to. It’s when he has to come inside that things go wrong.
Not sure I agree tbh. Especially against Burnley.
See absolutely no reason to be so conservative, get at them with genuine wide players and play Diarra, Sadiki and Le Fee centrally

€30m for a player that isn't ours. Yes please
We would see 7-10m or so of that, assuming we pay the 20-23m to sign him.

I cant see standing in his way if he wants to go, he isnt ours permanently and he isnt starting every game. He is a very good player though so will be a miss

Hume who's having a very good season, or would he play ahead of Mukiele who is a very good footballer? Or Ballard? Or Sadiki? Or Xhaka?
Geertrudia was brilliant over Xmas especially at Spurs away. He had a poor game at Brentford as did Xhaka Alderete Mukilele etc aswell then he wasn’t seen for the following 3 games. Hume is having a decent season but there isn’t a person telling me Hume is a better footballer than Geertrudia and he should of been playing ahead of Hume especially with Xhaka out

With everyone fit and available Geertruida doesn’t start unless we go with 5 at the back.
He’s behind Mukiele at RB, behind Ballard and Alderete at CB, Reinildo at LB and Xhaka and Sadiki in CM.
He should start ahead of Hume at RB as he’s better. He should also start ahead of Hume in CM.
Xhaka being out should mean he plays but it’s understandable to a degree that he didn’t play last week. If Hume had been even semi competent last week it wouldn’t have been so controversial to leave him out but he was utter turd and hooked at HT.
