Dogs of The SMB.

This thread just reminds me of how brilliant dogs are.

It has been a couple of months since I lost mine. I miss him loads, but also miss the general dog stuff of walks and the people I meet, there was no little face looking up at me when slicing a pork join the other day, all those things.

We need to think carefully about timing if we get another one. My daughter is going to uni next year and if she picks a remote one I don't want to get a dog while she is away. But then if we get another sooner, there is a chance she might pick a local university just because she wants to be with a new dog.

I'll wait a bit before I bring it up with the family. Benji's toy box is still there in the corner and we need to sort that out. Come to think of it, we have not emptied the dog food cupboard, and the kids are still too upset to think about scattering his ashes, so it is definitely too soon now.

He hates water to the point were we have to take his water bowl to him to get him to have a drink
God only knows what our dogs went through in their earlier 'lives' (more like existence).
Ex breeding dogs (from puppy farms 😡).
Had one of them for over 5 years and she still won't have a drink while we're anywhere near.
We end up going upstairs so she'll go for some water, then we hear her scurrying off when she hears us coming downstairs.
Poor little bugger.

We think ours has had an accident with water as a puppy before we got him, he'll drink in front of us but never goes to his bowl.

We foster dogs for the rescue that our dogs came from and it's absolutely heartbreaking seeing how frightened of humans some of them are.
A lot of them won't eat out of a bowl - their name tags (on their collar) only has to 'jingle' against the bowl and they race off in panic.

The look of sheer terror on the faces of some of them when we collect them is awful.

Really rewarding though when they start to trust you and go off to their new homes

You'll know when it's time mate. There is no right or wrong.
My last one hurt me so much I waited about 10 years until I got Bobs, and losing him is ganne be worse, I already know that.
Worth all the pain though marra.

Totally agree with all your points here.
I think the absolute world of all our dogs, but one of them in particular is like living with a shadow,
she follows me everywhere
She was the first one we adopted from the rescue we now foster for and I'm well aware that she's getting old (just like me).

Dreading the day when she's no longer here.

Technically they're my parents dogs, but I'm counting family dogs!

Top photo is Minnie, also seen pretending that Charlie the cat doesn't exist.

Closest chair in the second photo is Callie.

All three were strays. Minnie was found on the streets in Macedonia. Callie was rescued after being hit by a car in Romania. Charlie was literally found in a bin.

I’ve just posted my new boy, I still get teary thinking about the old boy 2 years on. Hits like a train at times can be walking our older one now and he’ll see a spaniel like his brother and lift his paw. Thinking it might be him. Absolutely kill’s me.

I don’t think there’s ever a right or wrong time to do it, but I literally never wanted another dog, the one we have now was going to be my last. The heartbreak at the end is too much. I saw a picture of the new ones dad and had this one home 3 hours later. You’ll know.

I want to scatter the old boys ashes but the Mrs wants him close and she is the boss

Fair play mate for doing what you do, I don't think I could do it, it would break my heart seeing them in that condition. There are people out there who should be nowhere near any type of animal, how anyone could mistreat a dog is beyond my comprehension.

Can just be a coincidence too, I wasn’t exactly looking for another dog until the couple moved in next door with a pregnant cane corso. Didn’t think I’d want a “bug” dog either. Glad it worked out as although I had missed having a dog and the odd thought of getting one was just a good coincidence that we’ve ended up with enzo.

Bravo Zulu (BZ), the combination of the Bravo and Zulu nautical , is a signal, typically conveyed by flaghoist or voice radio, meaning "well done" with regard to actions, operations or performance.
