I think even at £2m/year on top of that £2.5m/year, that isn’t bad value if he can continue on the form he was playing at before AFCON. He did take a fair bit of time to get going though, so who knows. We also need to factor in the SAFC injury tax, meaning he could be out for 4-5 months rather than 4-5 weeks.

I’m getting the feeling this Ta Bi lad isn’t going to be going straight in to the first team. If Mundle goes out on loan for more regular minutes (which I think will happen), RLB will want someone else to bring on as a finisher on 60-70 minutes.

We won't be getting shot of Traore, we only just got him in the summer! Then there's Talbi after him, and now Ta Bi. Hume is chance to play there tomorrow and even Mayenda can do a job on the right.

I just don't see the club spending 30m+ on a winger in January. It may be something they'll look at in the summer, but even then, they'll probably be looking at players around Europe for that kind of fee.

I wouldn't be against keeping Traore nor would I be surprised if he stays. But I think the very nature of his deal suggests that he was signed as somewhat of a stop gap. With the option in there to keep him another year if we don't bring in someone better.

In terms of Fatawu, I'm not worried about a fee of £25 to 30m - he could be a good buy at that price. By all accounts we were interested in the summer and Leicester demanded too much. They are in a weaker position now.

He's only 21 and has attributes to become a top player. He's quick, strong, direct and can score from in and around the area.

If he was 20m I'm sure the club would have looked at him, but up to now, he's just been a good championship player, but if you're looking at that level, then Jack Clarke is putting up better numbers, do you see him as a 30/40m player??

I have no idea whether Fatawu is worth £40m/£30m/£20m/£10m. Nor do I know whether Jack Clarke is worth £40m/£30m/£20m/£10m. The point is, I don't care, because the test is surely - 'Can bringing player X in for £Ym make the team perform better than it currently is, with consequent improvement in our league position (with the additional prize money that brings) and possible qualification for a European competition (which also brings in additional remuneration).'

The fact that no club paid out £40m in the summer only confirms the old adages that :-
(a) what something (or, in this case, someone) is worth is entirely dependent upon what someone is willing to pay for it (them)
and
(b) everything has its price

As with any economic transaction, there is a price mechanism in which the buyer and seller will make their separate decisions on what they are prepared to accept and what they are prepared to pay.

As a supporter of the football club, I'm not really bothered about whether the billionaire Louis-Dreyfus' valued financial worth, including his shareholdings in SAFC, is estimated to be £10m/£20m more or less, so long as the club is operating within the parameters of the PSR requirements and we are competitive with our peers. I am interested in what I see out on the field of play, wanting it to be thrilling and entertaining. The balance sheet - not so much. That's why double-entry book-keeping never became a spectator sport.

Perhaps Ta Bi could go on loan to Leicester as part of the deal to bring Fatawu to SAFC.

Yes but on a message board people are perfectly entitled to give their opinion on whether they think his value is worth it. Of course the only opinion that matters is the clubs. Just like only RLBs opinion matters on team selection or performance and people still comment on those, that's what a football forum is for.

As fans we know the club has to adhere to PSR. If someone seems like they'd slightly improve the side but it would cost us £200m, I wouldn't want us to do it because we wouldn't be able to strengthen any of the other positions I reckon we need to strengthen, and would have to sell to balance the books. My opinion on it doesn't matter a fuck, but I'd voice it on here because that's what the place is for. The financial side of football is absolutely huge, so it's no surprise that people have an opinion on a player, how he'd fit into the side, and whether he seems good value.
