I imagine there’ll be a set payoff, whether it’s a fixed sum or some kind of tiered system, rather than six years paid in full.

I think the days when mangers got their full contract paid up when sacked are long gone. There'll be all sorts of clauses that limit his compensation if/when sacked. Moyes had such a clause in his Man Utd contract and that was about 12/13 years ago.

How does UEFA allow these kind of things? Palace got screwed over because some idiot who had a a 25% vote was seen as having influence over 2 clubs but Chelsea and just take the manager off their sister club and be seen as acceptable? If this doesnt show the same people have full control over both clubs and are willing to screw one over for the other I don't really know what does.
Its not, it protects them if he is the greatest manager in the world and if not there will be a clause probably every season saying you get £Xm if we don't qualify for the Champions league. Yes they are doing some mental things with transfers but the people running Chelsea are highly successful business people, they don't make mistakes with contracts like that. The mental player ones were good as it got them around PSR and they can sell most for a 'profit' on the spreadsheet after loaning them around the world too.

He'll get a decent wedge but surely it's all built on league position, cup wins etc, plenty of get outs so the club don't need to pay a full contract up.
