I think most people realised he was supposed to come in and play games off a main striker, but by back luck, ended up our only fit striker and had to learn how to be a lone striker on the job. Tough gig.
He certainly didn't lack effort though. Can't ask much more of someone.
Suggesting he was "class for us" is probably overboard, though
