SOL expansion

Not only are Take That coming next year, but so are two other major acts 👏👏
Bands used to come to the SOL becos we’d give them the stadium for an extra 2or3 days to set up and break down than other stadiums. I don’t know if that’s still the case. Numbers wise a double decker east stand would blow the mags out of the water in comparison.

Got all excited as there were 3 blokes on a cherry picker working on the South Stand this afternoon. Unfortunately they were cleaning the exterior and not starting the extension.

Get it built, before housing becomes an issue.

Loads of my mates would like tickets but just can’t get them at the minute. I know loads of people in general would be going every week again now if they could get hold of tickets. The problem is kids missing out on going when they would like to. This is our future support.

Same here. I've a few mates that had season tickets a while back, but for family commitments had to give them up. They were obviously still able to easily pick up tickets as and when they could get to the games over the years. Their kids have now reached the age they're desperate to go, and got a taste for it over the last couple of years when the lads could take them, but now, they've got little to no chance.

I don't usually give much of a toss what that lot up the road say, but it always bugs me when they bang on about "free tickets in a happy meal" or whatever. As if kids getting to watch football for as cheap as possible up here is a bad thing!?

Were they not previously interested in football?

Club update from fan meeting minutes with regards to stadium expansion:

Stadium expansion: IH asked when the Club would consider stadium expansion. DB confirmed that the Club has explored this and the opportunities available, the club wish to ensure that the stadium is fit for purpose and enables us to compete.

This is actually more optimistic with regards to an extension that I expected, I can’t remember exactly when or where the last quote from David Bruce came from on this, but I seem to remember that said we would wait and monitor demand over the next few years, this makes it sound like we are actively exploring it now.

Whilst I still think the east stand makes more sense, timeline wise I suppose the Sourh Stand could be done earlier as little impact to concerts.

The bairns 9 loves he’s footy this he’s 3rd year having season ticket this year he’s completely Sunderland mad completely hooked there’s a full generation of kids that haven’t seen us on the prem with the big boys we need to make sure the stadium is big enough to make sure the next generation are able to come to the games now at the minute that isn’t the case

I said before, if we are more or less safe by March/april, we’ll start imho. Makes sense to go to 54k now.

I would love to know KLD’s mindset regarding this.
If I owned the club and had his wealth I would fully extend the ground with upgraded concourses and fan facilities but I’m local and supported the lads for 60+ years. Wouldn’t bother me the stadium not being full to capacity as long as the lower bowl was filled and there was capacity for future generations.
KLD obviously has a project and ambition, I only hope that it extends to giving us a world class stadium as well as a challenging PL team. What a legacy that would be to leave behind.
He said at the very start that part of the attraction of the club was the fact that we owned the stadium and that meant we could extend if we wanted to. They were unable to do that At Marseille
