Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

It does look cheap and will look worse when it ages and gets patched...against the pristine looking fine lines of the paving stones !I suppose its just about opinions and taste but personally im disappointed with the look but ha ho its just a bridge! i have a sneaking suspicion that the final look has a lot more to do with cost overruns and compromise on quality especially when you compare the cost of 10 tons of tarmac to the cost of 10 tons of york lime or sandstone paving slabs . Anybody got a link to the original plans ?

This article shows the change from the original plan. Second photo looks to be tarmac.

First trip on the bridge today. Taking the bairn to see Mary poppins in a bit.
Lovely pie at proppa. Honestly can't see why people twist about £12 for a pie and mash, it's class. (had some mince and dumplings anarl cos the bairn couldn't finish hers, lovely)

3 vaux beers on in the main pub. Pit pony, samson and freddy (what I'm having)

Bridge is really nice. I'll stand by my earlier thought though, the tarmac is cheapo and the proper stones look miles better.

I think its supposed to look like the keel of a ship? It just looks cheap juxtaposed next to fine quality paving!I cannot believe tarmac was in the original proposal ,perhaps someone itk (there is always one on here) would like to comment?
I thought it was just temporary to get it open for the rugby?. But seeing it still there yesterday I guess it is what it is now. Shame would look better even if it was a different colour just looks like we’ve ran out of money or something.
As it should be, love it that the club include George he’s earned the recognition and respect.

Aye we've been back over today, didn't get through full experience yesterday as too many people. Parked at st Marys and walked across to the stables for a drink.. loads of people about.

Agree about the tarmac , but I think in 6 months it will be worn in and you won't notice.

Agree about the bridge being a game changer. Yet a few on here said the bridge wasn't needed. I walked over it last night after the match, still pretty busy and very impressive, with all the new buildings and infrastructure.
Loads of families just sitting on the non-retractable seating enjoying the view and the sun.

Nice to finally get over it tbh and no doubt it will be a great asset for the city.

However the stone work with the ships names is a great touch, tarmac fine but the paving doesn’t go at all imo.
