Keel Crossing [opened 18.10.25] - compendium thread

Don't really get the excitement about walking over a bridge tbh. It's closer to me than the other one, so if it's not absolutely rammed I'll use it. Otherwise I'll just use the normal one. Definitely wouldn't be going out of my way to walk over a bridge mind, unless the time savings meant driving in the city centre had just become viable
bloody hell, i thought i was the miserable get on here :D

Bit of history ain’t it, there won’t be many more bridges going up over the wear especially this part of it and definitely not in our lifetimes. Was going to go to the women’s rugby just to be the first few to officially walk across but kept it for today as a real Sunderland match. It’s a bit of history hopefully linked to a more successful future that we parade something ower it in our lifetimes.
Aye that's a good point tbf. I'm glad it's open like, going to be great for having an extra pint in town, and could be really good on night matches where we don't get long before last orders. Just not convinced I'd go out of my way to walk over it if I wasn't planning on being in town anyway. Still, I'll shut up now and get in the spirit of it

It's a good link between the stadium and the town, and it's mint for having an extra beer. But it's still just a bridge. If I lived on the north side and went to pubs on the north side I wouldn't be going out of my way just to walk over a bridge. I seem to be in the minority here mind. I'll have a few pints soon and maybe I'll find it an exciting experience later on

Actually very surprised at the amount of people I’ve seen say they’ve never been or only been once or twice into the city centre on a matchday. Just shows what a game changer this bridge is going to be.
That's usually me. I park up at the park and ride, get the bus to the stadium, watch the match, then get a bus back to my car and drive home. Today, however, I'm in Sunderland city centre as I was at a party in town last night and stayed over. I'll be walking across the bridge.

Parking at the Cas as usual, bye passing the Wear Bridge and taking my 1st walk across the new bridge. Really looking forward to it and excited as fuck about the match. HWL, FTM.

a bit of history hahah. aye it'll go down in folkelore for sure, in centuries to come they'll be learning about the day the bridge opened for the second time, although the rugby world cup will be airbrushed out by the hardcore SAFC as wokerati nonsense and battles will be waged over which day signifies the true mark of sunderland's famous fourth bridge mardi gras

Going to be a nightmare at the turnstiles with everyone’s routine being out of whack, especially as I go in turnstile 1/2 which is slap bang in line with the keel line.

Pull the thing down I say.

I’m a bit of a nerd when it comes to the history of our town and riverside. There had t been a new crossing before the spire bridge for a long time. There won’t be another anytime soon now so it is a bit of history. It links our club more directly with the city centre. It’s took an unreal amount of time since vauxies closed but it’s finally starting to be something we were promised when it shut decades ago.
