Street Fighter (1994)

God awful video game adaptation starring Jean Claude Van Damme as Colonel Guile, who is on a mission to stop the one good thing in this film, Raul Julia’s M. Byson. Julia passed not long after filming. I haven’t watched it since it came out and I hopefully never watch it again. One of the all time crazy productions though.

2/10 (2 for Julia)

You’ll be wanting City Hunter for your proper SF2 action, featuring Jackie as Chun Li.

Train to Busan (2016) 7.5

Zombie apocalypse suddenly breaks out on a Korean KTX train. Edge of your seat at times in this fast moving horror, thriller.
I wish I could watch sub titled films as the Koreans have done so much content (zombie or even squid game) but Ive tried a cuple of times and I cant focus on screen as reading all the text, I even binned off Narcos Mexico due to all the sub titles....and I'm an avid reader in general.

Aww man....Narcos Mexico is class too! Hopefully you'll pick it back up as an avid reader.

With Train to Busan you probably don't need subtitles to be fair 😂 I watched Sisu the other day and it was subtitled but inbl the end I jst igmlnored, as like you say it's too dustracting. Certain filums you don't need subtitles to get the gist.

Unforgiven (1992) 10/10
Thirty years since I last saw this. Superb revisionist Western, with Clint Eastwood as an aging gunfighter trying to put his past behind him but lured into one last job. Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Richard Harris all on top form in supporting roles.

Bronco Billy (1980) 5/10
Middling film from Clint's light comedy era. At least there are no orangutans in this one. He plays a New Jersey shoe salesman turned performing cowboy struggling to hold his touring show together. Sondra Locke very unconvincing as an heiress who hooks up with him.

Out of the Clouds (1955) 6/10
Quite dull melodrama set at London Airport, but very good in showing the workings of British commercial aviation in the 50s, and lots of cameos from famous faces (inc Sid James).

Not sure if you’ve read it before but cannot recommend the book, Nuclear War: A Scenario, enough. Written by Annie Jacobsen in 2024 who uses military operatives and nuclear field experts for factual excerpts in every stage of the book.
I haven’t, cheers for the heads up.

Denis Villeneuve is in like to make a film adaptation of this.

If it's true I can't wait.

That and Mortal Kombat (1995) were my guilty pleasures when I was a kid

The Nice Guys (2016) 8/10
1970s-nostalgia buddy movie. Very strong - and funny - in the first half, then tapers away a bit. But great chemistry between Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling.

The Gambler (1974) 8/10
James Caan as a university professor with a gambling addiction. Less stressful, and more insightful, than Uncut Gems, which covers the same topic. Effective use of Gustav Mahler's 1st Symphony for the soundtrack.

The Life and Death of Peter Sellers (2004) 4/10
Adaptation of Roger Lewis's biography, which is superb. Geoffrey Rush doesn't quite cut it as Sellers (though he has his moments), and the entire movie implodes as a result.

I listened to a podcast with her talking all about the book. Have no desire whatsoever to read it now, as it sounds equally terrifying and depressing!

Highest 2 Lowest [2025] 7/10
Mid-level Spike. Not a patch on the original. Annoying ever-present score. The Denzel/A$AP face-off is excellent, though.
