Jhon Lucumi - Transfer Rumour

I think the way to get towards that is by sitting in shape with good defenders and midfielders who use the ball well. We’ve got a bit of that done but the bit we haven’t obviously does create a bit of worry.

We’ll get it done by end of August. Keep the faith!

We really don't have until the end of August.

We can't let these first three games pass us by.

It's going to be a challenge to stay up whatever happens. Opportunities to win games are going to be rare, but we start of with 3 of them on the bounce. We can't go into them with a defence worse than we had in the championship.
I really don’t think it is temporarily. Xhaka just drops back. We’ve then 3/4 in their natural positions and Xhaka, highly experienced, playing where he has filled in before.

Not ideal, but not horrendous
Just because a player has filled in somewhere before, doesn't mean he isn't out of position.

Sadiki would be out of position at right back.
Xhaka would be out of position at centre back.
Hume would be out of position at left back.

In any event, there's no way Xhaka is playing anywhere but midfield.

I’d say Hume right back, Ballard and Xhaka centre back, Reinildo left back. 3/4 in their correct positions, only Xhaka not but with experience of having played there before. Not ideal, far from it as I’d want Xhaka in midfield running it, but it’s a temporary solution that has a mixture of balance and experience in a key area. That then allows the three of Diarra, Sadiki and Le Fee to play in midfield as they have done together most of pre season.

Ideally we have at least one centre back in before then so the above or any other stop gap workaround isn’t necessary. But I think that’s the best version of a starting side of what we currently have. And I don’t think it’s horrendous

Shh! Calm down pet.😁 I'm sure they have a plan. Stop panicking.

Dhaka centre back in the premier league? Relegate us now

Annoyingly, this couldn’t be more accurate. Less than 6 months from the first 3 games and we are very much behind the 8 ball

Are the shitty knickers brigade honestly not embarrassed with the way they are going on?

Wish people could just relax and enjoy the ride. It’s obvious where we could do with a few extra bodies in and we will make more signings before the window closes.

We might even end up with a few square pegs in round holes but we are equipped to give a decent account of ourselves and some of the players who we don’t think of as first teamers could quite conceivably make the step up.

Not one of us really thought we would be happy going into last season with Mayenda as our main striker but it turned out the manager and the club knew what they were doing.

Get yourselves out of psychological self protection mode and just embrace the chaos.

Not a bad shout tbf, but maybe Sadiki in the back 4?

...................Roefs......................
Hume..Ballard..Sadiki..Reinildo

Mayenda....Le Fee.......Adingra

Subs:
Moore
Huggins Seelt
Browne Neil Rigg
Talbi Isidor Roberts
Square pegs in round holes tends to be a disaster. Attempting to shoehorn all the new signings in to cover the fact that we haven't got a decent centre-half may work on Football Manager. The Premier League is likely to be significantly more difficult.

I think what we should have done is buy a Talbi or Sadiki equivalent at centre back then focussed on a more established one after that.

We need 2 anyway, but at least that would have given us some breathing space to wait until the end of the window if necessary for someone at a higher level like Bade, Lucumi or Diakite who were always going to be challenging to land.

We've left ourselves in a right mess now at the back. For all the amazing work we've done to bring in so much quality early, the defence is going to look pretty alarming for the start of the season unless something dramatic happens very very soon.
My thoughts exactly.
Given we've lost Mepham & O'Nien & Alese are injured i personally would have triggered Tanganga's release clause at Millwall. £1.2m for one of the best defenders in the Championship is an absolute no brainer especially with us being so short there. We could have had him in before pre season whilst still searching for a next level cb signing. Like you say breathing space

Why would the club need to do that if they know the players they want to sign, want to come?

Tanganga at 1.2m is so strange. I’m not necessarily saying we should have triggered it, but it’s strange that NOBODY has. Something more there than meets the eye imo.

Would say Xhaka or Diarra have been as interested in our ‘ambitious project’ if we were going down the Ipswich route of signing good players from the league we have just come out of? I’d say possibly not.

£1.2m is peanuts, I'm staggered no one has triggered it if only to make a quick buck by selling him back to the Championship in jan for £2/3m

For two or three games, yes. And he’d do a very decent job there temporarily if we haven’t brought anyone else in by West Ham.
