Shearers predictions


He’s obviously a whopper, but given recent relegation history from the division it isn’t beyond the realms of possibility that he’s put the three newly promoted to go back down. If it does happen again, the league looks fucked from a competition perspective because it would be the third year in a row wouldn’t it? Effectively would suggest it’s become a closed shop for 17 teams and each year you have three new teams just there for a little day out before heading back down.

The likes of Brentford seeming weaker and us and Leeds showing ambition hopefully give hope that it won’t happen again.

The real problem is that the rest of the league don’t give a toss as they are happy to sacrifice the championship etc for the sake of a monopoly of finances and opportunity.

If the league was actually about purely sport then there would be a wage cap and restrictions on player nationalities (to safeguard the English team development). But it’s not, it’s purely about money and ego/power. So the big teams that effectively run the league won’t give a damn if the promoted/relegation loop continues at the top of the championship/bottom of the prem.

It’s a sad state of affairs, this season we just have to try to break in and that’s all we can do, but the monumental task ahead of us is clear.

owld sly eyes was very complimentary about RLB last week when my brickie marra was doing some graft on al's new extension there. Insisted on being called Mr shearer though iirc che

agreed... and that's not a reflection on sunderland, or the other two clubs that went up. thats just the state of the game in this country and the gulf between 1st in the championship & 17th in the premier league.

if all three clubs go back down again for the 3rd year running, someone really needs to take a look at the state of the game (without getting into any cartel shit!).
