Sunderland railway station.

Went past today and still think it's tragically funny that there were plenty on this very thread hailing it as a fantastic example of modern architecture that would breathe new life into that part of the city

Basically an empty Aldi doss house

I can't believe they (whoever they are) didn't have a plan for it BEFORE it was done.

I noticed that there is a market on every so often (Saturday's?) which is a good thing but I suspect that was an afterthought

I never use the railways or metro but had reason to use it a couple of months ago for a trip to London.
Approaching the station at 8am there were 4 or 5 pissed up lads and lasses round the side with cans in their hands having an altercation.
Walked in the concourse my God you talk about the big open space!
Then the platform areas are totally depressing.
Not a great place for some people to be introduced to our city.

I know our MP is looking into it and is talking to network rail, trouble is he has limited powers to do anything.

All he can do is talk to them and try and find a solution, really wish the rent of the units was cut for a period of 3 months to encourage someone to move in.

Don't understand the mindset of its better to leave them empty

Problem is if no one wants the units, or suspect they won't make enough profit to make them viable, even with a reduced rent for a few months, they'd be mad to open anything. No idea about how much traffic the train station gets daily, but if the footfall isn't there its, a loss maker from the off so will always be a struggle to fill

You'd probably be mad to open anything in any railway or bus station in the country

Might as well just be a free pick n mix for those using it as a drink and drugs shelter
The burger King used to do ok that was previously around.

I just can't believe no business was interested at all, and surely this should have been looked into before it was built with 3 small units

It’s just a shame because the rest of the developments in the centre are really positive.

I use this everyday and it's f***ing awful.

Full of fake tramps and alkys every morning. Things only been open a short while and one of the doors is already permanently broken and has been for a year now with no attempt to fix it.

You have the fake security guards ignoring anything that's happening and standing out the way.

Place is an absolute empty shell with nothing going for itm

An embarrassment tbh.

I was told it was also the lease you had to agree to, something like 10 years (only hearsay mind).

Years ago I enquired about a unit upstairs in the galleries and that was a 10 year lease, with a stupid price no one in their right mind would agree to, and that was apart from the stupid rent they wanted, business rates and maintenance fees.

The one’s out the front of Newcastle are all empty now as well, apart from Cafe Nero.

Just put some better seats in and make it look a bit more interesting. Pretty shit from network rail really

Put better seats in and it'll no doubt become home to the scruffs of the world to mooch about in, then everyone will complain pissheads are making the place look a mess😄
