Sheff Wed - financial issues

A club that has withered on the vine in the last 20 years.
Hope somebody can pull a rabbit out of the hat to save them, but looking bleak.
😞😡

Needs to be sort sort of policies in place for a forced takeover is situations like this.

If they fail the fulfil their first game then surely its going to end up in curtains for the club.
Against UK law, Chelsea is probably as close as it’ll ever get and that’s a complete mess with regards to where the funds can go.

Also if you take a company off somebody and force a sale through you’d still need to do checks which take weeks/months who will pay the bills whilst that’s taking place, EFL won’t have the money, that’s if anyone decent wants the club.

Oh god, I’ve just had the thought that this could be us in as little as 3/4 years if we were to fuck things up as badly as last time. Shudder.

The BBC report on this is really bleak reading, they can only open 3 stands if they can start the season, they’ve only got 14 first team players as it stands and a transfer embargo for 3 windows. Best case scenario I’d say you’re looking at back to back relegations, worst case is the club folds completely. That owner wants stringing up.

I’ve just read the same article.

It just goes to show no matter how big any club is, it can be mismanaged to the edge of existence in the wrong hands.

There but for the grace of god etc…

What a difference a year makes, first game of last season watched our home game v Sheff Wed on holiday in bar in Majorca with a Sheff Wed fan and his young son. He was buzzing pre game and oozing confidence. He had a score alert on his phone which gave goal updates about 30 seconds before what we were watching. He just kept telling me you've scored again. Sound guy and ended up getting each other drinks. 12 months on and out two clubs are a million miles apart. Gutted for them and hope they get a break soon.

The club needs to find a way to survive this next season and hopefully the loony at the helm does the right thing and fucks off. Even if its in League One with a different owner, its got to be better than this.

If the stories in Sheffield are true and he owes significant money to his backers, it probably no longer matters to him if the club disappear.

I mean given the mess they are in, I can’t see any potential buyer offering more than £20m and that won’t be enough for the owner.

This is is exactly what my good pal, Wednesday through and through, had just said to me. It’s an absolute disaster.

As a football fan, I know by the grace of god go us. I cannot imagine a massive club like this going under. But they might. Genuinely feel for their fans.

The fit and proper ownership stuff needs to be entirely overhauled. It’s a f***ing disgrace.
Yeah it’s an absolute disgrace that the EFL’s test doesn’t include that time travel step, so that owners who are perfectly fit and proper at the start but are going to turn into twats in the future are stopped from buying clubs as well.

This is just daftness. As (to his credit given where his head must be) @Visiting owl keeps pointing out.

It’s awful mate. The only way I can see things turning around is if the current owner can get another line of credit but that is highly unlikely.

I can honestly see them being kicked out of the EFL if the match next week doesn’t happen.

It really is HS. A historic football club that many of us have a lot of time for.

He said he is resigned to them being a phoenix club now. He said that in many ways that is exciting in a weird fashion.

Through his family, he has huge ties to the club (won’t go into detail but his dad is a well-known name, but that’s all I will say 😃) as well as being a fan since birth.

He’s a good pal and I feel for him immensely. I just think, what if we had to go through that? We don’t know how lucky we are. I’ve even refrained talking about all our new signings and the excitement of the season ahead. That would be cruel. Even though I know he’d understand.
