5 wicket win. Better than I expected in the end but we were definitely 2nd best in that game.

2nd bottom in the table now.

It isn't but I can see I'm not going to convince you so I'll leave it there.
Fair enough has a practically same posting style especially when talking about umpires and technology posted a practically same thread talking about Lords as a test venue as well.

I'll be honest, im relieved. I honestly thought that'd be much closer.

You lads know how much respect I have for Durham CCC - I hope you lose to Worcester (Sorry, I love em), and smash Essex and the racists to stay up.

Our first innings batting has generally been atrocious
McKinney doesn’t deserve his place and him and Robinson were both brainless
Much improved batting second innings but you can’t give teams like Surrey a huge head start
My opinion on the bowling is irrespective of a few wickets Parky is naff

Left at 4.30pm and put on Joy Division's 'Closer' album to cheer myself up when I got in.

I'd be lying if I said I'm suprised we're going to be second off bottom after this round of games.

So I was about the last one to leave as we had a chat and fair to say we are all worried.

Another heavy defeat (it really was). We've lost our last 2 games in 4 and a half days, that is completely unacceptable and cannot be excused by anyone.

Where do I start?

I said at the start of the season we were short of a bowler, recruitment fair to say very questionable. Connors hasn't done anything, Rhodes on paper looked a good one, but has failed. Gay on paper looked good but he's very inconsistent, we need more from him. Doggett was a waste of time, Wagner hasn't done anything yet and we signed Yusef who I feel has done alright. Blame for me lies with Marcus North, someone who I have wanted out of the club for years, didn't want him here in the first place (my posting history will show that), it's not a kneejerk reaction.

Running of the club - Last night summed that up really. A chairman named after a famous singer who is basically a puppet for Tim Bostock, what a downgrade from Beefy. As for Bostock, again no time whatsoever for him. This is a man who lied about the student night farce when he said it wouldn't happen again, who called members "Luddites" and who as proven last night lied to members about the "extensive" consultation over these proposed changes to the game and who would have had a say in scheduling that meeting last night, AFTER the vote deadline. In a nutshell, sod off we deserve better. He has absolutely no thought for the members at all. It's really sad as I felt more connected with Beefy around, but North/Collins/Bostock, worrying times as far as I'm concerned. What was it when we got bailed out.... community club/council tax payers bail out, yet those running the club can't be arsed to ask our views then later lie about it... rubbish

League table - speaks for itself, quite simply not good enough.

Performances - The league table doesn't lie does it? Had a chat today about this, and only Ben Raine and Graham Clark are really performing to the high standards, both having good seasons. Fair do Lees is very good but I still he's still behind where he should be, currently 46, he should be higher. Bedingham has been inconsistent/not available only averaging 23. Gay is either rubbish or good, again inconsistent. Ackermann again inconsistent. Robinson overall has been poor. McKinney has been poor and his shot yesterday was just ridiculous, averaging less than 30 this season . Rhodes averaging 15 is a massive let down.
We need better from them all. Some of the wickets/shot selection this game vs Surrey have been an absolute disgrace

As for our bowling, it really has been a mess in terms of random loan signings/injuries/different lineup every game. Thank goodness for Ben Raine, I believe we only have 4 players who have taken double figure wickets this season.... Potts, Drissell, Raine and Yusef, however that may have changed with Parkinson today, I'd have to check. Potts average 39 is a massive concern. The availability of De Leede is a mystery but he needs to do better, averaging 43 with the ball and 18 with the bat. Yusef and Raine I cannot fault, but others need to step up. The injuries to young players is a huge concern and questions need to be asked of the fitness people because clearly something is wrong with what we are doing with the bowlers both in terms of performance and fitness, so many injuries indicates problems as opposed to just bad luck. Whilst people say "give the young a chance" they're simply not fit enough with the exception of Minto who is away with England but the times he's played for us hasn't let anyone down and we'll be an asset for us for many years. Killeen rumoured to be leaving, and Coughlin all but confirmed leaving, you then have to question the futures of McAlindon and Luke Robinson as well as Hogg who all seem very injury prone. I'd suspect we'll stick with Hogg and rightly so but we need to see more of him but I do question the fitness programmes at the club, something is wrong.

Captaincy - Clearly an issue which divides fans. I've seen some good stuff, I've seen some bad stuff and like today I have seen some baffling stuff for example when Lees allowed two spinners to bowl when he should have just kept fast bowlers on and got off for bad light, it took him the best part of 30 mins or so and 40 runs later to do the obvious albeit we unexpectedly came back on. The motivation on the pitch, firstly lies with the captain and body language/encouragement is a major concern for me, it was noticeable on Tuesday afternoon and a lot of us have mentioned this so often. For me I'd bring Borthwick in to get everyone yapping away, encouraging and just be a nuisance with it all because at the moment it's an awful look.

Relegation - Serious issue now, not a lot to be said on that one now sadly.

One Day Cup - Some will know more than me, but who is away for the 16.4? I hope we can give this a good go. Who plays, I have no idea on who is fit/available so it'll be interesting to see what side is selected on Tuesday up at Gosforth.

On the whole I'm really annoyed how things are. I don't feel a connection with the running of the club, I have no issues with member/playing staff relationship but the club away from the playing side in my opinion is a bit of a mess. The ground in places is bordering on neglect, the boardroom level I've highlighted and the communication at the club is absolutely appalling. Members deserve a lot more respect from the club.

For the one day cup we will be without Clark, McKinney and Parkinson (plus the England contracted lot) unless anyone else gets called up as a late injury replacement.

Potts is a strange one like. England seem to have moved on from him, he seems way down the pecking order. The drop off from him has been quite shocking.

He's definitely in the worst form of his career and has had a forgettable season. I don't think England having him sat on the sidelines for a month has helped, he's a bowler who likes and needs overs and seems to improve the more he bowls. Having that month off was probably like another close season for him.

I watched him play for England against the West Indies at Chester-le-Street and even though he got a couple of wickets he seemed all over the shop and bowled quite a few wides.

Yes he hasn't looked quite right most of the season tbh. I guess it happens, everyone has a bad spell and I'm sure he'll bounce back.

It's dark and the umpires agree hence insisting on spin. I'm just confused why we've put spin on at both ends. It suits Durham to go off now for bad light.

To be honest, I think the lads probably felt that passage of play was our best chance of an unlikely win. I think we all know how difficult batting can be under the lights and Parky did look quite threatening when he wasn’t bowling four-balls. Ackers started nicely too, but unfortunately once they’d lined him up the game was done.
Get in!!!
(Sorry lads, im much happier than that but don't want to be a prick  )

Congratulations, it seems you’ve got one hand on another title. Your lads won’t have to worry about travelling all this way next year.
He's done nothing this season to warrant a recall. You have to question Onions preparation for the season when you see so many seam bowlers out of form or injured.

It’s an ongoing issue, the fitness and durability of our bowlers as a collective has been awful for a good few years now to be honest. Not sure any one individual is to blame.

Said it a few times recently but the long term performances (dare I say ineffectiveness) of Potts is a massive concern.

Outside of Raine and Potts though, I think we’re severely lacking. Seems like most games this year has seen a big drop off from the new ball bowlers to the change bowlers. Codi Yusuf excepted.
