Agreed,

For extra general capacity it would make more sense to extend the South Stand first.

But I would like to see the South Stand as a single tier which pretty much rules out hospitality and even if it mirrored the NS people aren't going to pay a large amount for an executive box behind the goal.

For more hospitality we would have to extend the East Stand.

Which was supposed to be the premier concourse, which didn't really happen did it?
 
Build the extension of the east stand before the mags make their move (whatever that may be). We could lower prices for kids. That way we could recapture County Durham with a new generation of Sunderland fans. Kids will want to watch top flight football wherever they can get in. No doubt they will then get hooked. That’s why we need a bigger stadium. With the number of season tickets we have sold it’s not going to be easy to get in this season by the looks of it. I would love to see a really large crowd at Sunderland like my dad did in the 50s and 60s.

It's a great point and one I've made before. A bit like City a new stand needs to have cheaper tickets to get younger fans in. Even make it a family stand with family tickets, it's one of the few ways to get new fans in.... i.e. Adult and 2 kids for £40.

My memory says that the BCB was entirely a new venture. When it first opened, all ST holders were given complimentary access to it for one game. It was that and the Legion of Light magazine through the post that was given as a renewal sweetener.

Yes in 97 when the stadium opened not when the extension opened.

I don’t think it was. The north stand concourse was exactly like the south stand concourse now with no room for hospitality or padded seats.

To my memory, there was the sports bar in the West stand and that was it as far as any hospitality bars were concerned.

We had all the boxes and stuff in the west stand still and what's now Monty's and the Brasserie etc.

He's definitely wrong about the BCB. As you say, it was just the same as the south stand without the police box.

I've been in 57k 3 times at roker
Over 50k on probably a couple more
Over 40k maybe a dozen
Since the sol was built its probably been the most consistent over 35k most seasons since the 50s / early 60s

100% correct no BCB until extension that link is correct

The sports bar used to be open non match days

That’s right

I had my season ticket row 41 lower north until Ellis Short moved the aways upstairs and south stand became home fans

That meant the first five rows of BCB were moved downstairs

I think I first went to roker in the late 70s but I think the biggest crowd I was in was 30 plus in the eighties. Never 50 plus and I dont remember it before cowie cut the roker end in half. I remember Stan Cummins and Jackie ashurst but it’s all very vague.

I would guess the last two or three 52-53000 plus crowds were during the 73 cup run !

57 k against man city 73 also Bolton and palace 76 or very close to 57k also man u 2nd div 50k
