Jack Clarke

Was a crap, shortsighted move at the time, and it’s proven to be even worse than he realistically could have imagined. I’d have him back like if we could get him – far better player than Ipswich enabled him to show last season

Wouldn't get much time for us except occasionally off the bench now.

Watson was already breathing down his neck. Then he made what could well prove to be the same stupid mistake.

Agents man, f***ing parasites, always blowing smoke up their clients arse and looking for a payday ahead of the player's career.
You don’t mean Watson was breathing down his neck for a place in the team so you?! He was the left winger for the reserves, but he was in no way ever competition for Jack Clarke. The closet he’ll have got to Clarke is pretending he was him in training.

As I’ve mentioned before, if we’d have stopped down & Watson was our left winger this season I’d be worried it was a weak link. He might develop into a great player, but for the majority of his Sunderland career he’s struggled & never looked like he was breathing down Clarke’s neck. Clarke’s replacement had been at the club 8 months before getting a left winger spot.

Can’t believe people think he’d be good enough for us now. We are building are far superior squad than Ipswich and he couldn’t get a game there man. Brilliant championship player and that’s it.

Bit harsh that ,at one point he was the only one scoring for us

God what a load of shite Clarke was quality he was been played as a forward by Ipswich who play narrow he didn’t fit into their tactics

Not that it’ll ever happen, but Clarke would strengthen this squad. Haven’t got a clue if he’s a good as the Brighton lad, but it’d be interesting to see him play in his actual position in the Premier League.

Aye thats right but your crack sounds very gravyesque a few new signings and suddenly jack clark is brilliant championship player "and thats it" ffs
I lived JC and was gutted when he left BUT we’ve moved onto better. It’s not personal. I just don’t think he’s good enough for the prem but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t amazing for us in the league below.

People love re-writing history with old players. People go on about Mundle's 'higher ceiling' etc but the reality is when Clarke was here he was streets ahead of any winger we had and given Mundle has struggled massively to stay fit you'd assume Clarke would've had more impact on the side as it stands. That's not saying I want us to bring him back, but i'm not naive enough to think because he went to Ipswich and got played as an inside forward for most of his appearances rather than the position that brought him so much succes suddenly means he can't cut it in the PL. I firmly believe he'd be a good winger in the PL in the right team. It won't be with us but I wish him every success personally.

Sensible bastard

Being played out of position at Ipswich isn't a valid enough excuse for what was a poor season personally for him.

But that said,

He certainly wasn't utilized there.
And played in a very poor team who struggled badly after 2 promotions in 2 years was probably too much for them.
A large turnover of players in that time so no continuity and probably played the wrong tactics.

42 goals and assists combined in just over 2 years in the Championship with us, allied to his skill and pace adds up to it making no sense how ineffective he was at Ipswich.
He is clearly too good for Division 2 football.

Not sure Le Bris and Speakman would fancy it, but i'd love to see him back here.
