Oh there’s no doubt we’ll get a good stuffing when we play the top teams, but there’s a large set of middling to lower order teams I fancy our chances against, WHU being a case in point, the first match will be a good test. Having said that, I’d take 4th bottom now.
 
To me we are the second most likely to go down after Burnley, a fair few more signings needed. It has all been very exciting so far and we are in an amazing position, but we definitely need more in defence and I'm still a little worried about the amount of goals we'll get.
 
I love SAFC as much as anyone, but its hardly a surprise based on last couple seasons and how promoted teams have got on, that we're deemed as one of the favourites to go down.

if it goes tits up I hope everyone will remember that the owners have given it a fair crack.

what it appears they have done is recognised that many of last seasons starters aren't at the level so they're trying to build a scratch Premier League side using Jobe + Watson plus one year's TV money . It's very ambitious, it goes against the accepted wisdom of "bank as much cash as possible and be a yo-yo" and I dont think it's ever been done before.

I used to enjoy it around 6 years ago or so, but it's not that interesting really IMO. Just listening to people talk about football with little genuine insights (apart from the European experts they sometimes have on).

I genuinely hope you do - I'm a Villa fan. But I fear that you won't realise how much harder it is in the Prem since you were last up. That's why sides coming up are going straight back down, because even the worst in the Prem have players that can hurt you, and are a lot more athletic than in the Championship. Sides that stay up tend to be those that either have gained good momentum that has taken them up a couple of divisions, or have bought in good Prem quality to go with their team. I only saw you in bits last season and a little bit of the Cov game and whoever you played in the final. I don't think you have the quality to stay up but who knows. As I said I genuinely hope you do as you're a massive club - I've always argued the biggest in the NE, and should be in the top flight. I love going to games in Sunderland, and you have a great following. I also don't hate Newcastle but its funny how much the Sob on the Tyne flag triggered them, and they remain triggered to this day whenever we play them, so its funny to wind them up. To be honest though - we don't give a sh*te about them but there has always been a genuine admiration for Sunderland, a club with a history almost as rich as ours.

Pretty much this, 3 promoted will always be favourites to drop again, the squad depths are always gonna be a problem initially, couple of key injuries and we will be scrambling again. See what happens when the season starts
 
I’ve seen enough of our midfield already to know it can match a good few teams in the bottom half of the PL. if we sign a couple CBs and a striker I’ll be confident we stay up like
 
I think Brentford will be in trouble this season having lost Norgard, Mbeumo, and biggest of all, Frank. If Wissa also goes then they will have thrown in the towel.

Agreed. If we can replicate what we've done to midfield at the front and the back we'll be mid-table.
 
everyone will have Burnley and Leeds nailed on to be relegated given the chasm that exists between the championship and premierleague so the team that finished miles behind them in the regular season will be seen as a shoe in to go down. nothing wrong with saying that

we need more for the squad but a starting keeper, centre back and centre forward and i think we've a competitive starting eleven at least. absolutely snap your hands off for 17th like

There’s been a plan in place with zero sentimentality attached to it and we’re spending money to achieve it. Exciting times.

As long as we’re well drilled defensively and have plenty pace to counter teams we’ve every chance of staying up.
Only thing that will hurt us is you need strength in depth in the prem. We could be putting in a performance of a lifetime against city or Liverpool then at 70 minutes they can sub on 5 players who’d probably walk into our starting 11.
