Archie Bailey to Durham???

Unfortunately this article is behind a pay wall but I've discovered the player in the headline is young Gloucestershire bowler Archie Bailey.

20 y.o. and only played a few games for Gloucestershire first team but I guess with our bowling stocks at a low we need to look elsewhere.

Yeh,read it in the Cricketer. Made an approach pre-season apparently.
Both in the final year of their contracts. What message does this give to our own academy products?
Both being Bailey and Aldridge

One of a trio of tyro pace bowlers being monitored by England has agreed to move the length of the country for 2026.
Archie Bailey, 20, comes from sporting stock as the son of Kim Bailey, the first race horse trainer to complete the hat-trick of saddling winners at the Champion Hurdle, Cheltenham Gold Cup and , but has been tempted away from Gloucestershire, and the family’s Thorndale Farm stables, by Durham.
Along with Hampshire duo Sonny Baker and Eddie Jack, Bailey is viewed as the future of England’s fast bowling, with head coach Brendon McCullum a big fan after watching him perform for a county select XI against the touring Zimbabweans in May.
Durham have an impressive record of turning homegrown seamers into England internationals, stretching back to Steve Harmison and Graham Onions through to the current crop of Mark Wood, Brydon Carse and Matthew Potts - not to mention all-rounder .
Now they have persuaded Bailey, a player with just five first-class appearances to his name, that theirs is the perfect environment to fulfil his personal goal of winning full international honours.
Another player switching from the south west to Chester-le-Street is Somerset all-rounder Kasey Aldridge, who has been on a Twenty20 loan with the club but is committing permanently from the end of the 2025 season.

Hopefully we do see some improvement to our bowling stocks this summer as at the moment the cupboard is pretty bare.
We have Conners who's been injured since signing, Stanley Mac and Robinson seem permanently injured along with Hogg, Killeen who doesn't seemed fancied and less said about Coughlin's ability to stay fit the better.

Fair enough this. Unfortunately our stock of bowlers just aren't doing it. Coughlin, Connors, Mcadlindin, Robinson, just nowhere to be seen. Killeen doesn't seem to be fancied and he's been here a while, so you have to ask if he has a future. That leaves Hogg and Minto who will do very well for us. Robinson had potential but how long do we persist given his injuries?

Suprised we're not getting Brandon Glover back.

Can't see any of those four being around for much longer.

Our back up bowling options are definitely a weakness at the moment. Conners was a curious signing but I would also question the lack of game time for Minto and Killeen after some brief but impressive showings.

McAlindon has totally disappeared which is a shame as he had promise a couple of years back and Coggers just can't be relied upon.

Stan Mac I was surprised they gave him another year.

Robinson seems to be injured a lot. Killeen can't force his way in even with injuries. So expect them 3 might not get a new deal for next season.

Hogg after starting well last year hasn't reached the same levels.

Minto is still very green as shown by him getting carted for over 100 for nowt against India U19s.

Yeh,they're the obvious facts. More worrying,McKinney doesn't seem to have pressed on in the last 2 seasons. So we haven't had one academy product come though since God knows how long? Why has the production line which had produced a dozen internationals come to a halt?

Mustard looks he could be capable as a first class player.

But looking at second division performances nobody else coming through from academy has stood out. Borthwick has had some of the best performances!

Wilf La Fontaine Jackson been one of the better performances and wasn't he picked up after doing well for the Uni against us.

So did Bushnell,Crawshaw, Whitfield when they were Mustard's age as were the young bowlers named. They just don't appear capable of taking the final step.

Minto's been busy with the England u19s, and also had the family bereavement earlier in the season. I predict he'll be busy in the Metrocaribou Cup in August.

Yeh, gives an opportunity for many academy products but will it be too late for some.Haven't they,by this stage of the season, have to have been informed if a new contract is to be offered if they're in their final year?
