Jordan Henderson (signed for Brentford)

it would have been nice for him to come home, but being realistic we’ve got Diarra, Sadiki, Le Fee, Neil and Rigg who will all expect to play.

I’m sure if he played a different position we would have been straight in for him

I'm surprised by this, mind.
Thought he was destined to make a return since he was a free agent (correct me if I'm wrong) and in the twilight of his career.

Wouldn't have minded him but I would have been more devastated if we had his decision 2 or 3 year ago.

Bet David Bruce is gutted from a commercial point of view. That sentimentality boosts our commercial and media presence a fair bit I reckon. All of which leads to revenue.
Dunno if it was just paper talk but speakman considering keane for the job suggested to me maybe public opinion wasn't entirely ignored

Fair point.

Another reason why I have been harping on about Henderson. Big name in world football and well respected. He would have added more than what he does on the pitch. Commercially and raising the profile of the club.

But the people who make the decisions see it different and I trust them to get it right.

I understand but you need some nous. A couple of bad results heads go down and that’s when you need leadership

You mean like the leadership shown at Ajax last season when they did a 'Keegan' blowing a nine point lead with only five games left? The old ' snatching defeat from the jaws of victory ' scenario?

I'm just pleased the never was gonna happen situation is over and done with.

Good luck to JH at Brentford ( apart from two games).

Then we'll get a sensible loan in no doubt.
Unfortunately the group stage finishes on December 31st by which stage the players involved will have missed 4 games.

I think it's fairly likely that at least 3 of the 5 players involved will also go on to the knockout stages, Senegal, Morocco and Ivory Coast are in the top 5 ranked teams. DR Congo 12th.

How many PL midfielders are playing 35/36 year olds these days?

Genuine question as I'm not sure
Not many, but not many are as professional as the likes of Henderson, Milner etc. I don’t think anyone is advocating starting him every week but pointing to how his experience and mentality could benefit the squad.

People keep comparing us to Brighton and they have signed the likes of lallana and Milner for this role in recent years.

Brentford are another well run and established side who seem to think it’s a good move.

I think it’s a no brainer personally but we’ve got to trust we’ve got something better lined up. I’m disappointed we haven’t moved for him but if there’s something else coming before the window closes, that disappointment will sharp vanish

Who was Newcastle captain when they blew the league? Not Keegan!

You can rarely blame an individual player for a teams failings.

That stuff like this is getting brought up is a good indicator that he wasn’t needed here. Commercial success and experience, cool… but no one has ever given a good reason or example of how well he’d actually work in our team doing his job of playing football.

He doesn’t fit in at all, very happy that Speakman and co think that. Would have been the easiest thing in the world to bow to fan pressure and bring him back.
