England v India - Third Test, 10/07

How’s he going to get any sort of consistency when he’s changing guard pretty much every ball? Needs to go back to basics bat on middle and off and leave anything wide.

I don’t buy this “no clear candidate” to replace Crawley bollocks either. I can think of at least 3 players I’d have in ahead of him right now including Durham’s captain.

They didn’t show the same patience with Lees who got about 5 or 6 Tests before he was jettisoned. He was certainly no worse than Crawley in 2022 and I think in the India game that summer he looked set for a hundred before Joe Root ran him out.

Absolutely this. Every single England opener since the Cook/Strauss partnership - and there’ve been absolutely loads, can feel very aggrieved not to have been given a fraction of the lives Crawley has had.

Regarding the ‘no clear candidate’, I liken it to football managers - just because there’s no obvious replacement, doesn’t make it right to keep plugging away with the current catastrophe.

He’ll be out soon here too, absolutely minging innings this. All over the place.

Long term, despite my views on him now, I still have a nagging feeling that he’ll be best suited to Australian pitches - more so than anywhere else. BUT, Australian pitches of late haven’t been the Australian pitches that we know and have come to expect. How funny would it be, if after four and a bit years of planning, the ridiculous kookaburra experiment and the grooming of tall, quick bowlers, the Aussies prepare sporty pitches (like they did for the BGT) and we get battered on conditions that are more English than ever before?!

I’ve said that since New Zealand about three summers ago when Boult and southee hardly celebrated when getting him out
Well let's be honest, it's like scoring a goal in the back garden with a 4 year old child in goal. It'd be f***ing weird to celebrate it
