Makes sense on a lot of fronts but maybe the club will feel the wages are spent better elsewhere. Think he was on about £80k a week at Ajax

Think he would feel a big challenge here to keep him going .
If he can come and lead the club to respectability would be an achievement to a lad who always says how much his hometown means to him .
He’s been there and done it -can surely help this young squad
 
This one does make sense.

We know he wouldn't just be coming for one last payday like lots of players such as those moyes brought in, players that didnt give a flying f... about Sunderland.

We know this lad cares. And is experienced.
 
I just hope this isn't the equivalent of Leadbitter in League 1.

Ultimate professional, looks after himself, but you can't get away from his age.

Good player for the dressing room, if his legs haven't gone.
 
Would be foolish not to get him.

Beyond a year or two as an impact sub/squad player, the club should be looking at the long term value he could offer thereafter; namely as an academy or first team coach if he wants to go down that role.
