Eng vs India - First Test - 20th-24th June

And Bumrah at the start. Set the tone. Brilliant innings. Would have loved him to carry on but that's cricket for you. The cricketing gods probably thought they'd given him as much luck as he was going to get. Happy with his 99 not so much his dismissal.
I missed the early play but am recording the highlights

God knows what will happen tomorrow

1st over mate irrc. 4-6 Bish bash bosh! Put that in your pipe and smoke it Bummy boy!!

He did come back and clean up to be fair to him. He's a class apart (says through gritted teeth).

I know it's early days for him and India historically play spin well but Bashir has to put his hand up tomorrow with some wickets. I know he's not everyone's pick (including mine) but he's got to show that wicket taking potential he's had this last year and half.

Agreed. I was surprised Root didn’t get a bowl first innings , he could get a roll sometime

It was Krishna not Bumrah that Brook thumped 1st up (doh!) but he did smack Bumrah about too tbf.

Yep agreed. I've always rated Root's off spin. Bowls carefree and has a knack of taking wickets. I'd bowl Brook a bit as well. Has that Gooch look about him, swings it a bit too.

I don’t disagree with the aggressive approach, but there’s being aggressive and then there’s trying to smash every ball for 6 when you’ve hit a 6 earlier in the over. Smith was the worst one, he nearly bottom edges one and then tries to hit the next one out the park instead of just seeing out the over and going again in five minutes time
Measured aggression is great. Positivity is great. Seeing a trap being set and falling for it so easily isn’t. These brainless shots that prey on vanity have to be reeled in. We have to learn very, very quickly. It’s just using your brain and not throwing away your hard-fought gains.
Why can't you just accept that this is the way we play now. They want to dominate and put pressure back on to the bowlers, they'd rather hole out than not accept the challenge. I love it.

Nah, just me & me dad in normal clothes. Should be a laugh
Had 2 days there Fri/Sat - great craic and good atmosphere.

Little tip - if you are fancying a few beers, ignore the queues under the stand and go to the Rugby stand end. Just after entrance A of the Western Terrace there are some self service beer machines. Go past them, up the stairs on the left to the concourse - it was far, far quieter than the bars under the Western Terrace

Morning all

Carse gets Gill bowled early 92 for 3 lead of 103

This is going to be a classic finish
Has that feeling doesn't it? Hope the weather stays dry now. Last thing we need is rain. Although some cloud cover while we're bowling wouldn't hurt.

Pitch is doing a bit. Carse has bowled particularly well first up.
