Eng vs India - First Test - 20th-24th June

Haway the Carse hole

Knock a 30 with Woakes and we will be nearly comparable
Can’t believe some of the comments on here about the Smith and Brook dismissals. The only reason we are nearing parity is because of this hyper aggressive approach to batting.
If we batted like some on here seen to want us to we would probably have 100 less runs.
I just don’t get it.
It’s frustration really.

Still the game is well on now all right

Think looking at the two shots for last two wickets more closer? think Smith was worse shot as he purposely hit it in the air, watching Brook he tried to roll his wrists and keep it down but came of the top edge rather than middle of the bat.

Agreed here

He won’t sleep Brook thinking about that but for an inch he was out for 0 last night

Now Haway the tail

That's ok when they are taking on balls around middle or off stump. But they're trying to pull the balls which are 1 to 2 feet outside off

Worse than Day 1, 12% of the day, though the rain might mitigate some of that, plus the 2 overs for change of innings

I took it that the overs lost to rain had already been removed from that figure marra, the two lost for change of innings definitely had though.

Just like the football match day threads there are always some constantly moaning and criticising professional players.

Getting with 50 of the India total would be a good performance and sets up the match nicely

Yeah I do agree in the past we would have been about 220/250 battled hard but got out anyway for a lot less, seen it happen for years.

And it was just accepted

I think it's only natural because it looks so unnecessary when you get out like that.

You're right though, if we played less aggressive and went at 3 per over we might have lost a couple fewer wickets but would be miles off India's total.

I also have no desire to watch Dom Sibley-esque batting.

I don’t disagree with the aggressive approach, but there’s being aggressive and then there’s trying to smash every ball for 6 when you’ve hit a 6 earlier in the over. Smith was the worst one, he nearly bottom edges one and then tries to hit the next one out the park instead of just seeing out the over and going again in five minutes time

I agree with every word.

Measured aggression is great. Positivity is great. Seeing a trap being set and falling for it so easily isn’t. These brainless shots that prey on vanity have to be reeled in. We have to learn very, very quickly. It’s just using your brain and not throwing away your hard-fought gains.

I think there’s always frustration when you gift your wicket away, irrespective of how well or how aggressive you’re playing.

It’s rough with the smooth stuff, but I get both argument. On the face of it though, our entire middle order (I’m calling that 3-7) got themselves out.
