Going with eldest on Saturday to see it. She's seen the first. I haven't. Looks like it's on iplayer so might have to cram it

Otherwise, it sounds like the dogs danglies. And despite a few mumbles about the ending, if we all remember, 28 Days Later had a similar reaction to the final third and that’s a beauty.

It was a bit daft, trope laden and disjointed. Geography wasn't its strong point either. 2nd half definitely better than the first though, so worth persevering with.

It looks like I'm going to be in the minority here but it's a 6/6.5 for me.

That’s fair enough. As I alluded to, everyone loved Alien Romulus and I thought it was utter dogshit

I think if you watch it and completely switch off then it's enjoyable enough, so I think most people will enjoy it. I'm really surprised at the critics scores though, I watched it without reading reviews and expected them to slate it.

Thee weird geography thing (maybe not as bad if you're not from the north east) and the accents and stuff were a bit annoying (again maybe not as bad if you're not from these parts). Second half much better than the first.
 
Apologies if I've missed the purpose of the thread but my "go back to fillum" when I can't find anything I fancy is
Zulu (1964). Baker and Caine superb.
The series' I go back to are Band of Brothers and Better Call Saul.
Watched them all recently.
 
Mean Streets (1973) 9/10
I've always felt Scorsese is at his best on a small budget. This came in at $650,000, and is one of his very best.

Modern reworking of Jane Austen's Emma. Superior teen comedy with the likes of Supergrass, Radiohead and The Lightning Seeds contributing to the soundtrack.

Been watching some Iranian films lately as a reminder that there are real lives at the other end of the falling missiles:

Taste of Cherry (1997) 10/10
Masterpiece by Abbas Kiarostami. A man drives around the mountains outside Tehran looking for someone willing to bury him after he commits suicide. A lot more engaging than it sounds, with some breathtakingly composed shots. I put this one off for years because Roger Ebert - who I usually agree with - absolutely hated it. Rereading his review, he seems to have missed the point entirely.

Clueless a bit poignant now as Brittany Murphy is no longer with us.
 
One to One - John & Yoko (2024) - 7/10 - Documentary covering Lennon around the time of the concerts in New York when he lived in Greenwich Village during tense political times in America (sound familiar?!). Most Beatles fans will know all about this anyway and have seen the concert footage before but there was some interesting stuff like the phone calls they recorded. It's well put together and the concert footage looks and sounds fantastic.
 
Wolf Man
Big fan of writer/ director Leigh Wannel's previous projects and after The Invisible Man I had very high hopes for this.
Unfortunately it didn't quite live up to these expectations. The biggest problem comes from the title itself: as a modern re-boot of a Universal Classic this needed to be a bit more of a spectacle rather than a pretty low key horror film, and given what Rick Baker had already done in the 80's (and 2000's re-boot of The wolf Man) going backwards with the make up/ transformation etc wasn't a good idea.
If released as an unrelated stand alone non property film with a different title I feel this would have been a bigger success.
I still enjoyed it, I just expected more.

Candid 2 part documentary chronicling the highs and lows of actor Paul Reubens.

Snow White
Seemingly dumped without ceremony onto Disney Plus last week I decided to give it a go: surely it couldn't be THAT bad, could it?
Well, actually, yes.
Rachel Zegler can carry a tune, but other than there's virtually nothing else nice to say about this astonishingly awful live action remake of the classic cartoon.
Maybe watch for Gal Gadot's hilariously bad song and dance number, but don't hang around for more.
Just a whole host of terrible studio decisions makes for an absolute mess of a film.

Whilst I thought wolfman was so-so, I did think I’d probably watch it again when bored.
