Pop Recs - Supporting Local Gigs

As has been suggested in another thread, let’s have a thread where we can tell each other specifically about events & gigs Pop Recs are putting on.

For those of you that don’t know, it’s a cracking little venue on High Street West, just on the edge of the town. I’ve been to a couple of gigs, Michael Head & Steve Mason where they’ve stopped mid gig & commented on what a fantastic venue it is.

There’s been a little bit of concern that certain events dint get the right exposure, between us we can let each other know, in a similar way the Fire Station thread works.

Anyhow, the two coming up I’m aware of is the Chameleons on 24th July & Fire Doors on 13th December.

They've currently got a music exhibition up, with photographs of bands, predominantly early Oasis. Friday gone had Def Maybe vinyl, Supersonic film and drinks bash. Everyone was Mad Fer It.

I do like the idea of Matinee Gigs like. Only been to one, but getting in & done early on & having the choice to go out after or get into bed is ideal.

I saw bmx bandits and shonen knife there the other weekend. Was rammed and an excellent gig. Seeing firedoors there in December and might see this is the kit too. All for a thread on the venue, I really like it.
Hoping to make the Fire Doors, but need to check with owa lass as a Christmas night out might be booked the same night.

This Is The Kit gig is Wed, 27 August.

I think the last twice I've seen them outside of festivals they sold out the Fire Station and Hall 2 at the Glasshouse, both of which hold more than twice the Pop Recs capacity, so if this doesn't sell out there is something very wrong.

I was there on Saturday night as it happens for The Lovely Eggs.

First time at the venue, acoustics were really good and the band sounded great. Quite the awkward gig though as the female lead singer went through a poor guy who was standing at the front, in her words leering at her, but he was probably just enjoying the music in his way. Funny one.

Not sold out which i thought was surprising as they have a pretty loyal fanbase and they sell out all the smaller venues around Newcastle without any issues.

Good post. Their comms are pretty poor like regarding gigs. Echobelly played a matinee there the other week and there seemed very little plugging of it thro their channels. Still sold out like so no harm done there but maybe other gigs don't sell so well?

I find there's very little middle ground, it usually either sells out or is very quiet, maybe depending on the promotor rather than the gig. Saturday was one of few times I've seen it sort of middling
