Wolves, Brentford and Burnley

Not sure, think we are in for a bit of a reality check with the quality of the teams we are aiming to finish above. Hopefully we invest wisely
Not underestimating the challenge at all, but we seem to underestimate our team too. Posters gave us no chance in the playoffs before they started. Also underestimate recruitment team which won’t take a scattergun approach.

Wolves no chance. Burnley yes. Brentford will be interesting if they lose Frank to Spurs. He's been there 7 years and wont be easy to replace. Still think they're well enough run and have a far better squad than us so will likely be fine.

If anything I think we're competing against the 2 other promoted sides and maybe West Ham. Big injury to Bowen and goals will be hard to come by for them.

We're weaker than we were last season with a Jobe sized hole in our midfield and 1 less promising winger in the squad.

I trust that they'll have targets and that there will be a bunch none of us have heard of. I'd snap you're hand off for 17th now, but I think we're in for a long old season.

We're not going to start the season with the squad we have now. The club knew that Watson was gone and Jobe was going as there could never be the possibility of a relegation on a Bellingham CV.

I agree with you, just saying that people have been comparing our season to Leeds & Burnley, but we've taken a couple of steps backwards.

We need 6-7 first teamers if we want to be competitive.

People are honestly underestimating how difficult next season is going to be.
Don't look at the teams in the prem next season 🫣,
I had a look earlier to see where our points mite come from 🤣
I'm honestly not arsed, it's gonna be so difficult but better being up there than not

Some teams will suffer from overconfidence and will end up losing against us, I don't think we'll do that badly at the start of the season. Target 25 points for Christmas & just try our best to beat everyone.

Best case scenario for us... ..Franke to Spurs, Big Ange to Brentford. He always wins a trophy in his 2nd season. On this occasion it'll be the Championship
Sad but the reality is we, like Leeds and Burnley need one of the 17 to have a melt down. They're all pretty good at reinvesting player sales but replacing managers can be trickier. Bournemouth and Wolves nearly come unstuck in recent seasons but in reality they need to be making two mistakes to be in any danger of losing their EPL place.

Overconfidence is certainly a problem I or the club have ever suffered from.

Don’t tar everyone with the same brush. Underestimate? I luckily don’t underestimate any club in the league.

We matched Burnley and Leeds last season. Obviously they will strengthen, but so will we.
Over 4 games? They both finished on 100 points. 24 more than us! I don't get people who go on about head to head games as though it's a realistic comparison to a full season. Hull beat us does that mean they were better than us?

Leeds are miles better than us at present.
Burnley were miles better than Luton the other year then Luton went to to finish above both them and Sheff Utd in the PL 🤷

And again who cares what the finished on last season

I'm in something of a quandary for next season - as some of you know from previous posts, I'm a Wolves fan who's lived in the NE for 20 years now, and I started taking my lad to Sunderland games at the end of the L1 season.

We've had season cards the past three years, and did the early bird renewal for 25/26 too. This upcoming season is the first where I've got a genuine conflict of interest.

I've read this (and the other Wolves thread) with interest, but we currently have a good manager, money in the bank, and had a strong-ish finish to the season. Unlike the start of the last two seasons (Lopetegui walking out, G'ON finishing the previous season on a rotten run of form) I have no concerns about 25/26 for Wolves.

Brentford will likely lose their manager, possibly keeper, and possibly Mbeumo as well, but odds are they'll replace them well, in the same way that Brighton have continued to improve year on year.

The PL is turning into a closed shop, with the same 17 clubs entering their third year together, which means 3 more years of payments and signings than those coming up have managed. I'm working on the basis that both Leeds and Burnley have had churn, and SAFC have obviously been away since 2017.

So while I think Sunderland finishing ahead of Burnley is possible, given they built their Championship season on a miserly defence and not scoring goals, I think it's a tall order to catch Brentford. Which means even if you do finish ahead of Wolves (& Burnley), you need to overhaul at least one other team. Leeds the more obvious shout but they've had an additional couple of weeks of PL planning given they didn't take the playoff route.

Come back and bump this post in 12 months' time but it wouldn't be any major surprise if the three who come up this season, are the three who go down next, again.
Can't disagree with any of that tbh mate.....that is why our recruitment this summer is so important and imperative we get it right.🤞🤞

We won’t be playing Cov n Blades next season though.

Agreed.

At the moment we're way below everyone in the premiership in terms of squad spending - although I can in my more optimistic moments tell myself we have the possibility to fare better than Leeds and Burnley due to the way we all play. (yes that is the sound of clutching at straws!)

But that still doesn't even begin to address the fact that the premiership has effectively been a closed shop for the past 3 seasons and there's another huge gap to bridge to reach the standard of the worst established teams.

We need the stars to align in terms of; great recruitment, coaching, existing players developing and a bit of good fortune to give us even a chance.
