Forthcoming gigs.

Saw the Waterboys last night, not seen them since 1985, Mike Scott's is in great voice and the band is superb, sounding at times like "Dylan goes Electric'. The talking in the audience when the decibels dropped for softer songs was dreadful, probably the worst I have experienced.

They played a mid set selection from their latest record which is a celebration of Dennis Hopper, including a video of the album opener sung by Steve Earle. Because it was themed, complete with film clips and other visuals, having all the new songs together saw the atmosphere dip and the talking levels rise. A couple of good songs but a bit lost on quite a lot of people wondering who Dennis Hopper was. I'd sooner bands keep trying new songs though, it keeps them interested and interesting.

Newer arrangements of songs with fiddles and mandolins being replaced by the Hammond B3 of 'Brother' Paul Brown works fine. The Whole of the Moon, saw half the hall get their phones out to film. Ended with a high octane Fisherman's Blues.

Thegig couldn't match 1985 which is one of the best gigs I have seen, but great to see them again.

A lot of ups and downs in there. Talking during gigs does my head in.

gave up on them after few years back at the Sage - as much as I like them I'm not paying a lot of money to sit there and listen to pissed/ignorant people shout for ' Whole of the moon' for an hour and talk among themselves when doing other songs.
He should do it first or call his tour ' not the Whole of the moon tour ' .

Too right. It's a great song but I wouldn't be upset if he didn't play it because there are loads of others as good or in a few cases, better. They did about half of This Is The Sea which has a few contenders on its own. I just don't understand people forking out and not bothering to respect the performer and the audience who do want to listen. They'd be better off at a Now That's What I Call Music karaoke.

I saw them a few years ago at Moseley Folk and they did exactly that - great idea, I thought. At Northern Kin last year they stuck it in mid-set but they were headlining and had the late night crowd with them.

As for people talking, they need to be told. No good just complaining on here.
