Getting promoted - do we actually want it?

I think we have a few players who could make the step up into the PL, but what worries me most is the overall lack of pace/physicality in the squad.
In answer to the OP, yes I want us to go up but its going to take some magnificent recruitment to keep us up at 1st attempt without breaking any of the rules.

Watching the Premier highlights and seeing Ipswich put up no fight against the Mags, I’m not sure how we go from getting turned over by Oxford and Blackburn to competing with established Premier League teams in a couple of months.

This team has some talent but it is miles off being able to compete in the PL. I honestly wouldn’t mind another season in this league and letting the young players develop and hopefully continue to improve.

I’m not sure I would enjoy a season of getting battered like Leicester, Ipswich and Southampton have had. Maybe these last few weeks are just sucking the life/positivity out of me.
Even with another season, the team wouldn't be couldn't enough for the Prem. It would need improving vastly to even stay up.

We should want to go up, although there is never going to be a right time financially and the way the clubs being run makes me wonder. Maybe it will be sold on once we're up - who knows.

Staying in the Championship long-term is not a viable option.

Every club down here is losing money by the bucket load every season.

If we went up and back down with 0 points we'd be light years ahead of where we currently are financially.

At what point did it become an option to consider promotion as a bad thing? Obviously we'll struggle next season if promoted, but it's either ride the parachute payments for a few years or fester in the lower league(s) and fade away. We need the £££s

If by some miracle we went up we have to spend the entire 150m rights windfall to have even a sniff of a chance of staying up.
There's nobody in the team that'd get into a mid table premier league team. Who plays for us at the moment that stuck out as much as Clarke did? And how did he fare at Ipswich?

Yes, we need the money man. Alternative is to lose the better players we have got and replace them and hope we improve rinse and repeat. Just don’t get these do we want to get promoted threads, might as well gan watch your local Sunday league footy if your not wanting promotion.
Be interesting to see your view next season if we do get promoted and are getting hammered and embarrassed game in game out

its a sad state of affairs that football has come to this- promotion for the financial rewards it brings.
But its always been like that, even when we went up in 1999, the television money would have been vastly different to what we would have been getting in the first division, but in return we got such players like Stefan Schwarz, Julio Arca, Don Hutchinson, Emerson Thome.

We would be better off after a season of getting leathered in the PL with parachute payments etc, people still think Southampton have some quality & valuable young players despite getting skelped every week, so we would unquestionably be better off going up no matter how ill prepared we would be.
