Jack Clarke

It’s more about the fact he left us for Ipswich and many of our supporters in this thread can’t get over that.

The reality is, money and the division you’re playing in is the driver, as it is for many footballers. They just refuse to believe Ipswich at the time of signing was a more attractive proposition .
It's the imaginary stature that Sunderland have in the game that some of our fans are blinkered by. We're simply not the be all and end all that's in some of our fans heads.

We've just spent five years in L1, pay fuck all in wages, haven't won anything for over 50years. We get big crowds and that's pretty much it. Even Ipswich, the subject of much derision in this thread, have won the FA Cup, UEFA Cup and finished runners up in the league twice in that time. They were paying more money than us last year and will be paying more than us for the foreseeable future I would suspect.

Unless you're a home grown local lad the North East is unlikely to have been your dream destination to spend your life either. Clarke needed a fresh start we gave him that, got him back on track to where he should be and once was. Couldn't take him there ourselves and he moved on. Hard to swallow but that's life IMO. Exactly the same thing will happen this year with Jobe. He's ready to step up a level, unless we are, then he will go. It may well be to a Crystal Palace or one of the promoted teams.

Great post and absolutely bang on

It was 4 seasons in League 1.

Again can you prove it ?
Just Google it, I'm sure it was common place to stop clubs going bust by paying premier league wages in the championship. It's common sense

Jack Clark was on peanuts in footballing terms. He probably doubled his wage at Ipswich if not maybe a bit more. So maybe on 25/30 grand a week

It's not like they signed a current premier league player on 50/60 grand a week. And if that was the case then yes I would expect Ipswich to insert a clause reducing it by 30/40 percent.

So it's not just right across the board for every signing

It is normal for most promoted or lower premier league teams, why wouldn't they?

Just seen he's on 26 grand a week at Ipswich I doubt his agent would negotiate a pay cut of what he was on at Sunderland if they got relegated which by the way was always a very strong reality

I got nothing against Clarke who gave us some great moments, but it would be pretty funny if he was playing in the division below us next season

A lesson in not to use a shite player as your agent. Jack is a great player but his agent who was also a decent championship player got in his head

A 115 page thread dedicated to how much he’s wasted his move suggests otherwise

In respect to what else you said, I don’t mind people commenting about his play, performances etc but it’s everyone bleating on about how he’s throwing his career away etc because he’s gone to a side who are going to come straight back down. That’s what I find obsessive and pathetic.
It's one thread.
If you find it pathetic, don't read it.
It's 117 pages now btw, partly down to your contributions.

Bleating on about summat you don't care about, now that is properly pathetic.

I’ve got a feeling should Leeds not go up he will end up back there. Ipswich tactics are the main reason in my opinion why the move hasn’t worked out for Clarke. I do also believe it will take something for him to get another go at it in the prem which is sad really.
