Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

You said this yesterday but i commented on Saturday night about how disinterested he looked. He resembled a 40 year old. 20 year old local lad should have been like a gazelle. Now we know why. We can’t afford to carry players who aren’t 100% committed

All I can think is it’s some kind of bargaining tool. The club announced an 8 million loss, we sell Watson for 10 million, we have no need to sell anymore players. It is a weird one, unheard of in the top 2 leagues. Many will have first it was an Aprils fool when first seeing it on X.

I've no doubt plenty of deals are done before the summer, but to make it public just opens up an unnecessary can of worms and brings out all sorts of theories as to this, that, and the other.

It was a bad PR move tbh and one that will carry on from now till the end of the season/playoffs.

There’s some embarrassing post and massive over reaction on here mind.

Watson has never asked to leave however he felt the club massively undervalued him especially how much they’ve bigged him up.

He’s on life changing money at Brighton who had already had 2 bids accepted last summer and January and the club both times stopped the deal at the last minute first time no idea why second time we all know why.

The club haven’t handled it at all well and had the club offered somewhere near what TW was wanting he would’ve signed a new contract.

Can’t blame the lad and wish him all the best.

He hasn’t signed just to be loaned back out and for the under 23’s either, he’ll be on the bench and around the first team squad. Brighton rate him massively.

A lot going on about his recent form he’s just come back from 4 months out where he had a broken bone. It takes a good few weeks to get going again for some players.
Sensible post not sure how you know like. Cant believe anyone who feels sacking off a home grown talent who shite loads wanted for whatever money represents good business. We have totally lost our identity. Things like this will finish me off. Just cant see the point in it.

Berb’s claim that he won’t play the last few games of the season because a deal is agreed seems more plausible now.

All hail Berb.

No idea but he wouldn't know his arse from his elbow the deal won't be a sudden thing so why play him in games recently then
Because the deal was still being negotiated?

It’s an odd thing that he’s predicted it a few weeks ago, and the deal has been announced with a similar amount of games left of the season that he said Watson won’t play in.

It’s a very good guess if it is just a guess.

Id still play him like he'd still obviously want us to go up

He wants us to go up - he’s a Sunderland fan after all, but he wouldn’t be getting stuck in or pressing as much.

He won’t want another long injury scuppering his pre season with Brighton, I’d be wary of that if I were RLB.

I’d play him towards the end of the season when 4th is basically confirmed. Just to keep Mundle fresh if anything.

Personally I wouldn’t play him again. We paid a canny wedge for Aleskic give him any minutes that were earmarked for Watson. Will help the lad settle if he’s actually doing what he brought here to do.

Literally got stuck in when getting booked Saturday

His daft yellow card when he slowly closed them down and completely mistimed a challenge?

If that’s the only example of him pressing or getting stuck in during the game, then it’s not a good one.

Where do you draw the line though? Does he continue to train with the first team squad in that case?

His going i presume will be the first of many.

Apparently it's the model we are following, nurture a good player and sell him... so the owners do not have to dip their hands in their pockets much.

From the Accounts, I think we have a loan of some £8m, against the clubs assets to cover losses to date.

Short, iirc, wrote off some £100m +, not this guy!

Well, that was always going to happen when you make the news of him leaving public in April instead of the summer. Which is my mine gripe with this transfer.

Some will get on his back and others will question why Regis may still pick him over others, and if theyre right or wrong, the club have given them the floor to air those opinions now.
Brighton made it public. What were SAFC supposed to do?

It's such a shame under these owners our young fans will never get to have heroes because they get sold ASAP. We aren't even getting good fees for our talent because these owners will take anything to prevent them putting their own money on to run the club on. Of this 10m they'll put 500k into replacing him.

Got to get rid of these owners asap.
