Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

I think this £10 million fee for an 18 year old with only a couple of championship games is a decent bit of business for us. Obviously the lad could go onto to very big things and make that fee look like small change, but that is the gamble with any signing. As it stands we have Mundle in ahead of him anyhows on merit and I’m more than happy to see Mundle develope with us. I think it’s a bit unfair fans having a real go at the lad as he’s still just a bairn, however where it comes to playing him I would be a bit reluctant as I’m not sure the lad will be up for it now knowing he’s off to the prem in the summer. Keep him out for me and look to move on without him now I say.

Gutted to see him go, I think he has the potential to go right to the top. Hopefully we have a decent sell on percentage.

I'll try and pick out the positives of this, the club is in a position where we need to sell a player like this in the 10-15m bracket every season. We've just done next seasons early, so any pressure to sell Jobe or Rigg will be reduced.

It also means we can plan for next season, deals for Cirkin and Neil a priority, but we can also make concrete moves for targets too

Gutted ?

Really ?

He’s hardly played for us man.

I think you’re kidding yourself if you think we’ve done next seasons early. Unless we secure an improbable promotion there is zero chance of Jobe and Rigg being here in September

I'm hoping we keep Rigg. He's obviously a great prospect, much better than Watson, but he isn't yet running games in this division. Teams would want him, but without contract pressures hopefully we can convince him to give it another season. Jobe could have left after last season but I'd hazard a guess that having this extra year, looking genuinely good at this level, will mean both we and he get considerably more when he goes. Jobe probably doesn't gain much from another year in this league so if we don't go up I suspect he'll be off. Rigg isn't there yet imo. Hopefully next season can be the season he really steps up, like Jobe did this, and then either we go up or he leaves for a fortune at the end of next season

Sadly, I think the interest in Rigg will be huge mate. If one of the big clubs shows an interest, I suspect others will also follow.

If we go up though, we will get another season

There is no doubt that Brighton will be paying significantly more than us. That said though, with us he would be playing championship football at age 18. I know it’s a tough call, but both Rigg and Jobe’s parents saw that as a major benefit.

I think it will be a big shame if we lose Neil tbh. Our offers to the lad have been really poor though and are well under market value. We did the same with Clarke

I don't think we pay under market value, our wage bill is comparable to all championship clubs that haven't had parachute payments.

This

Jobe leaves in any eventuality…the numbers rumoured for Rigg make a departure equally likely but I hope we hang onto him

It’s getting better but it was in the bottom handful of championship clubs

Their wage bill is 3m quid a week
They're 15th in the wages list and their weekly wage bill is less than half of what you said.
Estimates of course, and I've seen £57m to £66m PA as their wage bill , still way less than the £156m you state.

Just went on Capology and we are in the middle pack of clubs, the big anomalies according to that is parachute clubs and Middlesbrough.

I’m not convinced that Rigg is guaranteed to be away. He’s got a decent amount left on his contract, is still very very young.

Jobe will almost definitely be away. Neil I think is more likely than Rigg.

Probably right mate, although I think there's a chance with Rigg. Jobe will definitely go. Going to be a big rebuild if we don't go up, but at least this time we should have about £50m+ to do it with. We'll need to see first team ready players mind, obviously the plan is to have the replacement here already like Stewart when Wyke left and Mundle when Clarke left. I'm not really seeing a Rigg or Jobe waiting in the wings though, and we can't just buy potential and leave gaping holes in the first team squad

I wouldn’t mind Neil leaving…him and Patto get extra praise because they’re local lads but there’s better out there in the championship

I think Riggs the least likely, I think he needs a full season more than anyone.

My view is that if they didn't want to go the club won't force them out, if we don't go up and the three want to leave then the club will try and keep them or sell for the highest they can get.

The three big sells so far have been very good value for the club.

We won’t have £50m+ to do it with though. That’s the fundamental problem with this ownership

Our offers to Neil haven’t been great mind. They are under market value

What is market value?

You have the championship market, the parachute championship market or the premier league market. All groups of clubs can offer different amounts.

Surely they offer him the same as Ballard? Which would make him the highest paid player at us and Boro.
