Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Because it would filter out anyway. Look at this thread as evidence of that. It draws a line under it. He's signed his contract meaning if he does get injured it doesn't hamper his move either. Its one where either way people old have the opposing view of how it should be handled

Give over man. Most knew he'd be off in the summer, but theres no reason to come out with it now. Just look at the drama it has caused. Watson won't get a good reception by a lot of fans and there'll be those who think he shouldnt be selected to play at all in case he's just plodding along, knowing that he's off anyway.

They'll be a shit load of players at clubs knowing they'll be playing for another club next season, but that news won't be made official until the summer. Its just another classic blunder by the board to release this now when there's no benefit whatsoever.

Mundle wasn’t available for a good chunk of this season.

Had Watson not gotten injured, who knows..but as of now we’re extremely light on the left going into a hugely important set of games.

A Championship side can't turn down £10m for a player who is't even going to be first choice when Mundle is available though mate.

Even more so when he's not going to sign a new contract, which despite what some think, the club can't force him to do.

Watson has literally had 2 good games here.

Only time will tell if it’s a good deal or not. The lad has potential but he has a long way to go if he is to make at the top level.

Obviously there has been glimpses of quality though and Brighton have certainly seen something.

It is strange though that a local lad, who is from a Sunderland supporting family, has been so quick to want to move away.
Only hope he’s happier than Clarke appears to be ☹️ Suppose the massive hike in wages will help

Well, yes. We don't even know what league we are going to be in next season...we need everyone pulling in the same direction and fully focused. It should have been announced at the end of the season.
PL money next season is summet like £150m iirc.
This says a lot about the powers that be at SAFCs faith in the current squad to get promoted this season. Looks to me like the Brighton owners have more faith in us.

Brightsiding it now I’m hoping the knowledge that we’ve got £10m will drive up any future bids for other players of ours.

can only offer 3 year pros max at 17, but 5 years at 18

However I think Watson hype will just be hype I can't see him developing in to a player who play for Brighton, if they are challenging for Europe
So in theory you can offer 3 at 17 then when they turn 18 it’s automatically extended by two years?

With that status by agent, genuinely think we need refuse to do any business with him, ban him from our youth teams, agents are only in it for the money and this one is constantly causing issues to our detriment.

Oh I agree (regarding the money).
I just find it a very very weird time to announce this.

None of them have the potential to improve as Watson does and none of them would get a move like Watson has. Alese and Ballard dont even get a game for us never mind a prem team. There’s plenty reasons why players might stay/sign for SAFC but money isn’t one of them.
Jobe is the outlier but pretty obvious he’s going to bigger and better things.
Watson doesn't even get a game for us man. People going on like we're Barcelona, selling a prime Messi to Rotherham.

Not sure he’s overrated. He has bags of potential which is what Brighton are investing in. That 10m could be worth a fair bit in a few years or it’s a 10m gamble that didn’t pay off

Brighton certainly know far more than I do and it's hard to argue with their recruitment given their record over the last few years, but even leaving that aside the reality is a Championship club is in no position to turn down £10m for their second choice LW when said player will leave for nowt in 12 months anyway.

Are we going to start selling other players before the season ends????...why bother with a window at all???

It's just a bit idiotic, and very armature behaviour from the club when there's a very big few months coming up. Really unnecessary.
Or it helps us line up his replacement in whichever league we’re in next season

I'm not bothered really. We got the cash in. Watson wouldn't fit in thier squad, Mitoma and Minteh are far better player than Watson. He ain't ready for the Premier league. I'm happy that's he gone. We have good players coming up anyway the likes of whiitaker, finn, tumirov etc.
Brighton know he’s not PL ready. They’re working a similar modus operandi to SAFC atm……only ten years ahead.
