Chris Rigg

January wasn't good enough. We might as well forget about Huggins, he's not kicked a ball in 16 months. Alese too. Both look fantastic but are never available. Hjelde looks very poor, Josh Anderson has looked awful (seen both mentioned as full back cover). Instead of signing a striker with a broken back, cover at right wing and full back are blindingly obvious. Maybe Speakman isn't allowed a right winger though after giving Poveda a three year deal.

Yes the quality has improved massively from League One, well we'd surely hope and expect it too. Don't forget also that the two bits of good / top quality we've signed recently are RLB "signings" in Le Fee and Isidor. Speakmans signings this season include a number of misses (as well as the hits), as they always do:

Connolly - crap and gone
Samed - crap and will be gone
Abdullahi - never played a single minute
Poveda - looks like a big problem
Danns - broken back

The hits:

Browne
Mepham
Moore
Aleksic (probably, if he got game time)

Hopefully the hit to miss ratio is starting to improve, particularly from the army of overseas kids like Pembele, Bennette, Lihadji, Hemir, Ba, Aouchiche, Mayenda, Rusyn, Dajaku. Of those 9 maybe only 1 will have a decent run and impact in our first team, two have already left. Seelt and Triantis came in around the same time and I guess there's hope for them two also.

Agree about aleksic. Always looks a threat when I see him yet someone like Samed gets hoyed in whenever there’s an injury to either Jobe, neill or Rigg. Aleksic looks to me, like with a bit of game time, he’d be a real asset 🤷🏻‍♂️

Correct I m afraid, think we have trouble getting deals over the line on incomings but will no trouble doing deals outbound.

I do get it mind. That next level up is a huge step to where we are now, and it would no doubt be an uncomfortable one for KLD to make on his own (even with Sartori). They're simply not used to the levels of investment it would take to even start to compete to just stay in the league above.

If I think about the club as a business and away from being a fan. Would KLD think he would be so much better off in the Premier League? The level of investment would have to be scaled up significantly, along with wages for better players and the current squad wanting a pay rise.

I just wonder if the club is quite comfortable where it is now? Big crowds, season tickets of over 30k, and minimal investment, especially when you can make a big player sale or two. I think it was mentioned that transfer fees came to 8m as a whole this season. They'd be questions if we were to go up and not spend 5 or 6 times that, and that's still being quite conservative when it comes to spending these days.

Always the 64,000 dollar question if/ when promoted. Does the club/ owners risk most if not all of the tv money to buy players just to try and survive, or spend comparatively a small amount and try to survive, with smaller amount

If we go up le fee is being bought for 20m afaik, and with that will come his contract for 4 years at say 60k. You then have a lot of the team who are here saying pay rise please so may well be a lot of contracts to renegotiate.
Doesn’t take long to burn through that tv money on players and deals, and if the incoming players don’t work out it can be a costly exercise

At the same time we have to consider how many of the current squad are actually good enough for the prem league, as it’s a big as jump in quality and as seen this year, the promoted teams are getting beat most weeks and will likely all drop down again and then it’s a scramble to make the finances work again especially if owners aren’t willing to bankroll the club significantly

Or a third option is the owners get promotion then try and sell the club off for a decent profit

Agree with all of that, but its a bit depressing to think that he is happy with this idea of plodding along while selling the crown jewels each year .Every thing you have said in the last paragraph is what my dad said to me as we left RP in 1962/63 season after Tommy Harmer scored to keep us in the 2nd Div.I was 9 at the time and if you had said to me then that in the future while watching Bournemouth,Brighton, and Brentford on MOTD that I would be jealous....well I would have needed nurse Ratchid

Aye, that's my thinking.

KLD will either look to sell or need some major players to become investors. I just don't think he has the appetite to do it alone. Big money being spent is unavoidable with the step up in league and expectations.

KLD isnt a fan tho. He may well have grown fonder of us over the years, but when it's come to taking that leap, he's remained cautious in his approach, just look at the January transfer window again. It wouldn't have taken a lot for us to strengthen, but he didn't and that may give a good indication on just how important he thinks promotion actually is.

We're not losing a lot right now, the football finance fella said most clubs in this league lose around 20m a season with us around 8m this year. Add a player sale or two to that and things start to look rosey still.

We all seem to to on about Brighton, but their owner is an actual fan, and he's bankrolled that club to between 400-600m so far and hasn't asked for a penny back (as of yet). The talk of using them as a modem is a great, but they had to take those leaps from a player costing 4m to players now costing them 40m. I just can't see it happening under the way it is with our current ownership.

Just have to see what happens if and when we get promoted, not worth worrying about, same as any silly rumours about players leaving for massive fees.
Much like we saw in the summer people can say we need, or a player is worth x amount of millions. When it comes down to it they are only worth what another team is willing to pay and what kld will accept.
Loads were convinced Clarke was worth 25/ 30m quid, we got 15m and looking at him this season he’s struggled massively in the higher league but maybe useful next season when Ipswich are back at a lower level

Think main reason JC struggled he's barely played in his proper position
West Ham offered £10m, so.£38m looking good
Thought the hammers valued CR at £10 million not offered
