You're support is effing shit

It’s a chant that is sung at pretty much every ground in the country by away fans.

Yesterday we had an amazing attendance. A 12.30pm kick off and a dreadful performance from the side contributed to the atmosphere in the ground. If Le Bris wants to excite the fans he needs to stop playing like an away side at home and set the side up to get at the opposition.

I can guarantee the hull away supporters sing that at every ground they visit In the county. I actually thought the atmosphere was half decent today
Really? It’s been awful for months imo.

I must admit though, our terribly slow starts to games doesn’t help one bit. Nor the longer term issue of having the away fans where they are.

In almost every home game the away fans sing this. It's obviously not aimed at the amount of people in the stadium as we are the best in that respect as the numbers prove that.

It's obviously aimed at the complete lack of atmosphere and support for the team.

I've been a season ticket holder for decades and I must admit the last few seasons I've noticed a down turn in atmosphere

Having said that I don't think it's just a Sunderland problem I think it's noticeable at every other club when they play at home.

It's usually the away fans who make the most noise
And its unforgivable that home supporters boo and insult their own players...fans who proclaim they love the club but then shout obscenties at their own team...all that does is encourage the opposition and put more pressure on our players....i can never understand that mindset...its absolutely awful.

It's a football wide issue tbf. Well in the UK anyway, no idea what it's like abroad currently.

Lots of reasons. Game is more family orientated now, less drinkers there, less people going to have a sing along and just want to watch the game play out.

More expensive (even though we are relatively cheap in comparison to other clubs of a similar level). Think some of the louder fans are priced out, more so elsewhere where prices are higher.

Tourists, lots of clubs now getting tourist fans who are just there to tick a box.

Kick off times dont help, certainly for us, how many three o clock Saturday kicks offs have we had? Late kicks offs even? Mid week, early kicks offs, Sunday games always gonna bring the atmosphere down.

Nonesense. Under mowbray it was immense. Largely due to the attacking football being served up as opposed to the pedestrian and predictable stuff we keep witnessing. Its actually getting worse as the games go on!

Early kick off is always a bit shit, but the main factor was the flat performance from the players, and also the fact the game was so stop start due to their time wasting tactics.

One to forget yesterday like, at least the weather was good.

I’ve said it time and time again, our atmosphere directly correlates to what type of football we are playing.
Let’s face it, our football at home has been dogshit for months.
Sit back, no possession, lethargic shite. It’s hardly going to inspire the fans.

At home earlier in the season against Burnley and Sheff Wed when we had the high press and playing attacking football, the atmosphere was much better.

My colleague at work is a very sensible chilled guy and loves his football, albeit a Portsmouth fan.

He goes to every Portsmouth game at Sunderland and said The Stadium of Light stands out as a particular stadium with an awful atmosphere and early leavers. I couldn’t really argue with him because he wasn’t trying to wind me up, the context of the conversation was him being really positive about the city of Sunderland’s changes, the team being really good and the crowds we get in the Championship.

I explained to him my theory that early leavers had always been a thing so it’s more accepted at Sunderland than other places and it’s disproportionately people live in places like Bishop Auckland, Northumberland or even farther afield.

But the atmosphere I couldn’t offer any justification tbh. Just is what it is, but u think it’s always been shit aside from the first year or two of the stadium and possibly the first few years of the South Stand. Everton h, Chelsea h and WBA h being 3 fine examples. But the South Stand regulars are now ten years older and need recycling. And the rest of the stadium is dead.

I was sat bored most of the game yesterday we just sit back against teams now compared to start of season where we were playing the high press. No wonder the atmosphere Is piss poor

We are their big day out.

Little clubs who come to the big teams and want to mouth off and show how great they are.

Big licks. I’m more concerned about the dropped points against a rubbish side than a few songs from their supporters.

It can only be a tactic from le Bris. Our possession stats are shocking and have been all seasons.

It’s tedious watching the opposition knock it around us.

Yeah usually which isnt great. We need to get behind the team when they are struggling which is proper support. The crowd just gave up and couldnt be arsed in the second half. A real shame.
Because we’ve been seeing the same boring, predictable football for months man, we’re sick of it.
Silent until near the end
Yeah but at least they stayed, and were still there to make the noise once they equalised.

However your point about our support getting older is more valid than most realise , all the SOL regulars since opening are now the best part of 30 years older , with age comes wisdom and the wiser folk amongst us aren’t going to be starting the chanting in the south stand or wherever.

No excuses though, the atmosphere at home has been atrocious for years and isn’t going to change anytime soon.

Atmosphere comes from the club and the team and at the minute we are not playing great and even when we win under RLB the football isnt great

Last time atmosphere was good was when TM was here and we were playing good attacking football win lose or draw
