Polytechnique [2009] 9/10
The Montreal Massacre of 1989 where 14 women were murdered by an incel prick.

Early Dennis Villeneuve. A tough watch. Beautifully shot.

The Accidental Tourist (1988) 5/10
Acclaimed when it came out. A very strange watch now. The whimsy is undermined by borderline stalking, and the whole thing is now coloured by the fact that William Hurt was later revealed to be a serial domestic abuser in real life.

The Tin Star (1957) 8/10
Excellent Western. Henry Fonda as a brooding bounty hunter, and Anthony Perkins as the weak young sheriff he takes under his wing.

The Innocents (1961) 9/10
Genuinely unsettling psychological horror film based on The Turn of the Screw. Screenplay by John Mortimer and, mainly, Truman Capote.

Watched last night, well-acted but concur- pretty drab sums it up . Was it really worth turning into a film ?
 
Better man - The Robbie Williams biopic where hes played by a CGI Chimpanzie, sounds ridiculous and shouldnt really work but is actually very entertaining a solid 8/10

i can't say it would be a film i would probably want to watch, but a number of people have said this so much that's it peaked my interest. some saying its on a par with rocketman?

Wonderful.
I’d give Colman Domingo the best actor Oscar now but it’ll end up with that little weirdo from Willy wonka.

Anyway. Great movie. The acting is a cut above, and most of the cast are ex cons which gives it a poignancy.

Oh and it’s also apparently a true story, not that that has any bearing on the story whatsoever. Although we do see the original performance over the end credits which is great.
 
The Comedy Man (1964) 8/10
Excellent kitchen sink comedy-drama following a bunch of actors - but mainly Kenneth Moore - scrabbling to survive between jobs. There's a brilliant cameo by Cecil Parker as an old thespian fallen on hard times.

The Admirable Crichton (1957) 8/10
Kenneth Moore and Cecil Parker again - this time as a butler and his aristocratic employer among the survivors ship-wrecked on a South Seas island. In time, the social structure changes. But then they're rescued and return home...

Village of the Damned (1960) 8/10
Adaptation of John Wyndham's The Midwich Cuckoos. All the women of an English village fall pregnant at the same time. When the children are born, they have a hive mind, and are obviously not of this world. Creepy mix of sci-fi and horror.

The Arbor [2010] 9/10
Portrayal of the late playwright Andrea Dunbar, her daughters, and the community of Bradford, in the 30 years since the 18-year-old Andrea penned a play about growing up titled “The Arbor”.

Brilliant, original, grim.

My expectations have been slightly lowered though since 2 friends whose opinions I trust went yesterday and both were hugely disappointed by it, calling out the acting, the script and most worryingly for me, they said it was boring and "felt like it was about 5 hours long".

Surprisingly for a remake, it has been getting decent reviews. Looks that that at least made an effort to do it justice.

Den of thieves 2. 5/10 watchable although pretty predictable. Cast include Ice Cubes son again, Michael Bisping and Cyril Game from the UFC and Rico Verhoeven a world champion kick boxer. Gerard butler is just Gerrard butler,his roles are all the same

Hard Truths. Mike Leigh slightly underpowered in my view. Hard to care about the characters. Felt the problem was in the writing not the performances. 5/10.

Emma has married into an Italian, industrialist family, she is the respected mother of three, but feels unfulfilled. One day, Antonio, a talented chef and her son’s friend, makes her senses kindle.

Luca Guadagnino's best film. Beautifully shot. Tilda Swinton is amazing.

I’m off to see a screening of The Witch at The Prince Charles Cinema in a couple of weeks, with an introduction and Q+A with Robert Eggers in person.

I might ask him how often Ralph Inneson quotes lines as Finchy from The Office. If it’s less than 50 I may leave…

An incredibly powerful and important film. It’s the best I’ve seen so far from this year’s awards season. I went in fairly cold, all I knew was that it was set against the backdrop of military dictatorship in 1970’s Brazil and that it had a standout lead performance at its center from Fernanda Torres.

If we’re being honest, she should win the Oscar over Demi Moore by a landslide. The stoic nature of Torres’ performance means that a lot of the anguish and incredulity that you feel as a viewer isn’t always reflected on screen, but the emotion creeps up on you and then hits like a sledgehammer in the final act.

There are a couple of moments towards the end that will stay with me for a long time. One of them being a specific shot that lingers on the faces of our characters, the other being a piece of casting that is so effective, it is almost worthy of an award on its own. My Wife was in floods of tears afterwards and I wasn’t far behind her.

Cinema ay? Bloody hell.

It’s absurd that Emilia Perez has 13 nominations, but this only has 3.
 
A Simple Plan (1998) - 6/10 - Saw this recommended on here and thought it was pretty average. A poor man's Fargo.
