Good point re. Alese. I hadn’t considered him that key but we don’t have any real pace at the back without him.
He barely played at the start of the season when we were flying, 2 and a bit games I think he managed then he was injured

I just remember Clarke being outstanding, and it was one game. How on earth is going 3-0 up within 30 mins and ending up winning 4-0 not blowing a team away?
Didn't Clarke only assist once in that game?
Boro at home showed it was a myth. Boro were passing the ball around at the back just a few minutes into the game expecting us to come flooding forward. We sat in shape in our own half while they did it.Must admit I think our high press is a myth, never mind a manic press. I was expecting it first game of season at Cardiff and it was anything but. We have a very occasional high press.
It isn’t, and I don’t believe, ever has been our default system.
It worked back then because we were absolutely solid and the back and never conceded goals.Boro at home showed it was a myth. Boro were passing the ball around at the back just a few minutes into the game expecting us to come flooding forward. We sat in shape in our own half while they did it.
We've very rarely used a high press. The tactic is to be very organised and wait for the ball to get into midfield then pounce. That didn't really materialise in the first half yesterday then when we went behind we had no option but to engage higher up the pitch.Must admit I think our high press is a myth, never mind a manic press. RLB has explained this - he learned that the squad players weren’t good enough and he couldn’t play the same 11-12 players with the high press for three games a week - so he changed the setup. When RLB came in, the first month saw us blow teams away with the high press, powerful and clinical counter attacking.
What's happened? What's changed?
Started to drop off in November and then I thought start of the year when RLB went 4-4-2, we would see it return but hasn't materialised.
Mind he's still done a very good job as the league position doesn't lie but can't help feel like the style of play has regressed.
We've also dropped a lot of points as well, lack of subs or negative subs and sitting back to invite unnecessary pressure.
Yesterday we were far too one dimensional. Having Jobe and Mundle in the side completely changes us as they are the ones that get us up that end of the pitch and keep us there. It worked back then because we were absolutely solid and the back and never conceded goals.
We’ve conceded 2 in 3 games in a row which I reckon is our worst defensive run of the season.
Exactly. The quick passing from the back stopped. Too much fannying on between the keeper and back four.Tempo
We still do it, but I think irs pretty difficult to keep that intensity up for 46 games, which is why we start with I density then sit back for a bit and then try again. When RLB came in, the first month saw us blow teams away with the high press, powerful and clinical counter attacking.

Mundle makes a massive difference. A genuine ball carrier with pace and trickery who is an outlet. Roberts carries the ball but is so pedestrian in his movement.Yesterday we were far too one dimensional. Roberts is very predictable. You just know any attack that he's involved in will pretty much end up breaking down and giving the opposition possession.Mundle makes a massive difference. The electricity has gone from his game. Just so slow.Roberts is very predictable. You just know any attack that he's involved in will pretty much end up breaking down and giving the opposition possession.
Something changed, we got just 3 points less in our first 12 games than we have in the 19 since. Only 31 points in 19 games is why we are 4th and not in the top two. Don't get me wrong, we are doing better than I thought we would but after such an impressive start it still manages to feel a little disappointing
Where do we lack depth? We've got 2 or 3 players in every single position. We lack reliably fit players, not depth

And it baffled them because they didn't know what to do. We weren't pressing, but we were closing down all their forward padding lines.Boro at home showed it was a myth.
