Simon Adingra 🇨🇮 Signed!

My guess is Tommy is still a Sunderland player tomorrow.
It's fairly risk-free for Tommy today.

He'd feature for us this season when he's fit, and if he's as good as he's rated to be he'll have the same offers on the table in the summer or be in the Premier League with us anyway.

If this Adringa fella is closer to the finished article than Watson is right now, I'd rather we took the deal that's been rumoured.

Selling tommy now is a sign that the club dont really have the same ambition as the fans.
We will sell for way below the market value as per usual. Clubs normally have to pay alot more in this window but not when they come to sunderland
We will see soon enough

It’s actually the least “model” move we’ve yet seen. The model would keep Watson and play him.

But we’re going for it this year. So we get a proven Premier League winger in, short-term, for our second choice left winger, who has played like six games.

This is short-term prioritisation.

They can’t win.

Cant he be offered a new improved contract ?
You dont see leeds selling there top prospects in january do you ?
They must be serious about promotion

You don't think the club haven't already tried to do that given Brighton were already sniffing around in the summer. You can't force the lad to sign a new contract and if we let it expire we're either at the mercy of a tribunal or a club outside of England can pick him up for nothing.

Nonsense.

It's looking like we got top buck for Clarke, and ÂŁ10m for Stewart was daylight robbery.
The Stewart sale was just like getting a free £10m, he’s crocked.

£15m for Clarke was a cracking deal, he’s a top Championship player that isn’t effective at Premier League level.

Again with Watson, most people on here were slagging him off for all but 1 or 2 games, now he’s apparently worth £20m+. Maybe, just maybe, the backroom staff know the true value.

Regardless of where both players end up in their careers (and for record I think Tommy Watson has the higher ceiling) in the here and now a fit international winger that scored 6 goals in the Prem last season is going to be a bigger asset in our push for promotion than an injured 18 year old that has only started 6 Championship games.

If Watson is determined to leave we can either roll the dice on a tribunal or him leaving abroad for nothing or take the money now while also improving our chances of promotion this season. Sometimes a deal just makes sense for all parties, missing piece of the puzzle is whether Adringa is willing to drop down to the Championship for 6 months.

So far, it's looking like Speakman and co. are pretty good at accurately valuing the players we have, and don't sell for anything materially different to that value.

That's what the evidence suggests so far, anyway.

What is the market value of an 18 year old who has been involved in thirteen mens' games of football?

Cant see the logic in letting Tommy go at the moment, even if a player with a good rep is coming in.
Unfortunately the logic is he seems to be refusing to sign a new contract. Took an age to sign his first pro deal here and has obviously fancied a change for some time. now won’t commit long term to the club. Wait until the summer and we will get less money.
I think the frustration thing as a fan though is we let a very promising youngester go for a big fee and we won’t go and spend that money on a few players to come straight onto the first team with it. Always feels like it’s a loan or another player who won’t be ready for a season or so. That 10 million gets lost between a few million here and a few million there. We would all accept the sale if we brought in a few players with the money who are ready to come in and improve the first team!

If we get anything over 10m that’s pulling their pants down man 🤣

By that logic there's no real evidence that Brighton are after Watson either. I don't see the point in picking and choosing what parts of the story to believe.

Well its fairly obvious given the timescales that this is happening. The Adringa thing is still at the throwaway line stage with no real substance.
