Tommy Watson ( ...off to Brighton)

Not sure what you want the club to do in this situation.

Obviously we don’t know for certain, but we can’t force him to sign a new deal. At that point the club need to then try and get as much money as possible for him. £12m was rumoured to be rejected yesterday, so if they’ve come back with say £14/15m, it’s a hell of a lot for an 18 year old with 5 senior starts to his name, who could leave for a nominal fee next summer.

It’s frustrating as fans as we were all looking forward to his development as he’s looked very, very good when he’s played.
Not as if it’s just Sunderland would sell in this situation is it?

I can't get my head around Watson's thinking from an appearances point of view, I really can't.

The contract might set him up for life, but could also ruin his prospects.

If we've got a similar fee for what we got for Clarke for him then that's mental business by the club imo. If he's not signing a contract nows our best chance to get a good deal out of him. No issue with it imo.

Sums up the state of football when we can only enjoy one of our players who we’ve developed for years for less than ten games.
It’s happened before. Crewe Alexandra used to churn out players, Liverpool amongst others spent a relative fortune on teenagers who never really made it in the top flight.

Edit: Wayne Harrison

Didn’t we reject £10m yesterday?

£12m + add ons + sell on clause imo.
No idea. His value to us here is mostly based on potential. His value at Brighton is mostly based on potential and they just have more money. He's also injured right now.

I wish the lad well. Over to Speakman and co. to use the funds wisely. I think it needs to be spent today because we desperately need help up front.
