Mignolet


Didn't have the longevity of Sorensen, but that 18 month period from returning with a broken face NYD 2012 to leaving in 2013 was the best and most consistent spell from any keeper in my lifetime.

He was always a decent shot stopper but really timid and poor on crosses before that. Heskey smashed his face in and he returned with a broken cheekbone and protective mask. It was as if he had to force himself to be brave knowing he'd be targeted if he wasn't.

On a slightly related note, Sorensen went the opposite way during his time - was fairly confident in the air then broke his nose playing for Denmark. First game back was against Blackburn iirc, Souness made sure they went in elbow first every time and his form never really recovered.

You could have done some mental science experience morphing them all together and you still would not of had a competent keeper.
 
Took his chance when other keepers at the club didn't want to play as they were only 99% fit, yet he did with a broken cheek.

The bravery we needed from a keeper desperate to become number 1, and his career never looked back.
 
Wasn't he voted our player of the year in his last season with us?

It was a shame for him that Courtois was playing for Belgium at the same time, so Mignolet only got to play in the non-event internationals.

He knew a lad who often used to get in TJ Doyles down Deptford and often popped in with him, really nice lad very down to earth, he came in with his face all smashed in for a big game the week after (possibly v Man Utd?) even though he was supposed to be at home resting, just sat dabbing blood away from his nose all game poor lad, nice lad very good keeper.
 
Decent keeper and was also student. He did a degree in economics or something like that during his playing career.

The bairn liked him and her brother went to a signing and got him to write a birthday card to her. She was made up 😁

On 14 December 2014, Mignolet's run of 53 consecutive Premier League starts came to an end as he was replaced by Brad Jones in the starting 11 against Manchester United, with Brendan Rodgers saying Mignolet would be dropped for an "indefinite period".
