Future cup games - fan experience and incentives to go

If thats true that's absolutely shocking.

Turning up at 2.45 when theres only 16k in attendance shouldn't mean missing kick off..

The club could have sorted that out if they were dynamic and on the ground. They could have opened a few extra turnstiles in the north stand for instance

But the main issue is why is it taking so long for people to get in?

It happens every game on the east stand, the queues are massive nowadays, and although people hate me saying it, it deffo has something to do with digital ticketing. People must be taking on average an extra 5 or 10 seconds to get the turnstiles to open than when we had that little slot you put your card into.

If the club cared at all about the fans they'd try to solve this
 

If I want to go. I'll go. A text from the club makes no difference. I didn’t fancy it yesterday so I don't bother. Must admit I felt a bit narked that Middlesbrough pulled in a bigger crowd than we did all being equal. Will be a long time since that last happened.

It is true, @SHEEPSKINBOOTS mustve been stood right near me as she walked right past us while she was screaming that. It was a bad move from her because all it did was mightily piss off loads of us still stood outside waiting to get in so she got a mouthful of stick back with people telling her they’d been stood since just after 2:30 which is ample reasonable time to expect to get into any football ground. By this time it was around 3:10 or 3:15 so we’d already missed a quarter of an hour of the match and their goal. She scurried off towards the South Stand probably realising her mistake and that all she’d did was make a load of pissed off people even more pissed off.

If you mean the players specifically then yes, i suppose that's fair. Mayenda and Aouchiche had decent games, everyone else pretty crap I thought but being crap is different from not trying. Agree about Connolly.

But RLB didn't make decisions to give us the best opportunity and his subs were indefensible from a "let's go out and win this" POV

I might be in the minority but there was a lot more people there than I expected, I thought we would've stuggled to get 5 figures like Sheffield United did. It was a cup game against Stoke which cost £20. Nothing attractive about that.

How much do they actually save by closing off parts of the ground? Clearly puts people off going when they're selling tickets block by block. It's like the club can't be arsed with it.

Dunno probably quite a bit to be fair with Stewards, catering staff, stock needed for them etc.

Guess it all depends how many extra people they'd get by opening other areas which I really couldn't answer either way tbh.

Around 100 grand minimum. Possibly up to 200 grand. Let's face it it cost Newcastle 400 grand to buy the away end. So I guess it could be up to that much by simply closing 1 home stand.

Why should the fans bother with the cups if the club actively seek to limited their exposure to them. Going to games knowing from top down they don’t mind bowing out as quickly as possible is hardly encouraging the fans to attend.

But it's not just early cup rounds though.

We had under 30k of home fans for a Semi Final in the League Cup against Man Utd.

Which is why the arguments about us trying to win in the cup fall flat. Also arguments about ease of buying tickets seeing as you could buy on the door then.

Plenty of ST holders don't like to buy extra tickets it's as simple of that.
 
My guess (when it comes to putting out strong teams) is that, if we were in the PL, they'd probably give it more of a go as cups are, at least in the short to medium term, our only hope of winning something.

As far as incentives go, stick the cost of the first home tie of the League and F.A. Cup on the price of a season ticket (this can be done, nominally, should the club so desire i.e. no extra cost, or, stick it on the cost of a season ticket with a voucher / credit scheme when people attend. If there' aren't home cup ties, the nominal cost of tickets can be credited or set against future ticket purchases. This might sound difficult to implement, but, in reality, isn't. I don't know if making it as easy to go to a cup game as a league game and that you're in your usual seat will have a huge impact, but, making it as easy as possible for fans seems reasonable.

For later rounds, a simple Eopt-in for Season Card holders secures their ticket in (predominantly) their usual spot.

Would it not suggest to you that when people know there is going to be a problem they should turn up earlier. We got there at 2.20pm , few in the queue, got in a piece of piss, no problem. There is not a football stadium in Britian that if you turn up at 2.45 -3.00pm you will get in for the kick off so turn up earlier.

Turn up to the Sol most weeks after 2.45 and get in no bother. Who wants to be there at 2.20??
