Mayenda discussion thread

Good game but not consistently good enough right now to be starting in a team pushing for promotion. I don't think he's a natural finisher so will never be a big goalscorer. Unfortunately this goal tonight was probably all the justification the owners need to not spend money buying a proper forward. I predict Mayenda won't score again for weeks.
Of course he’s not consistent. How could he be expected to be when he’s not being played in a consistent role/position? We’ve had him CF, RW, LW and now in a 2.

He’s not a winger. (But when 3 of your wingers are injured you have to play someone else wide.)
He’s dangerous thru the middle but his finishing is average at best, maybe consistency is not realistic but a goal every 15 games isn’t good enough
7th start through the middle. 3 goals.

Good job the manager knows more than me, he was excellent tonight
Yes credit to Regis too. He was asked in the press conference yesterday if it might be a good idea to rest Mayenda for a couple games and he was clear in his response that, with young players, you have to trust them, not punish them for mistakes by dropping them.

if you watch the Access All Areas, it was nice to see the way the coaches interacted with Eliezer after the game.

His technique was perfect tonight. He fluffed his lines at Blackburn and Stoke and needs to practice practise practice so it becomes instinctive everytime .
Kids are inconsistent, as you say. Can you trust them to fire you to promotion. You would think not.
But he is going to get better and better

To start, Mayenda was a force tonight - he was the most consistently dangerous attacker on the pitch. He had a couple chances that maybe he should've done better with but he is miles more comfortable playing up top, breaking the lines and driving at defenders. We can't get Mundle/Watson back soon enough.

The kid has electric pace, decent physicality and technique.

He needs to work on his finishing and decision making at times, but he definitely has a bright future.

He was MOTM tonight but really should have had a hattrick.

There's no point in berating him when he has a poor game or misses chances, and then hyping him up when he has an excellent game. He's a young lad and will be inconsistent.
