Taking the Cock Sparrer/Cockney Rejects gig on Saturday as an example, was as many older punters - 40s/50s/60s - as young uns. Very much the case at a lot of gigs I go to, though probably depends on particular bands and who they attract as well. I'm 57 and going to more gigs now than I did 10 years agoI think us older codgers who refuse to pack in seeing bands are making good numbers at these shows
I suppose the young bands would like to look out at a room of young fans but it's us attending in numbers
I was surveying from upstairs and that's exactly where I'd have been !Nope crowd were well up for it. Audience were well-mixed for an Idles gig - I would have said more mature males predominated but plenty of youngsters of both sexes too.
Load of oldies round me, stage front left.

You expect old going to old bandsTaking the Cock Sparrer/Cockney Rejects gig on Saturday as an example, was as many older punters - 40s/50s/60s - as young uns. Great set of lads mate. I think you'd be surprised if you sat and listened to their back catalogue. Good loads of class songs. There'll be no mag tops on show either.Never been into them other than the odd tune however met Keith Murray years back at a festival backstage. Really sound lad.
Aye that's true. I see a lot of bands I've liked from way back. Still go to see some newer ones - Pastel, Marseille and Afflecks Palace in last 18 monthsYou expect old going to old bands
I was thinking more new stuff
English teacher last week
Shame gig I went too
Pop Recs bands etc
Yes, a really lively, upbeat combo !The mighty Skinny Lister in Manchester on Thursday. The best live band in the whole wide World.
I’d question why they feel the need to play to the crowd in that way, aye. It’s all a bit patronising. Let their music do the talking. Therefore if any band plays our home town and one of them wears a SAFC shirt on stage we should dismiss their musical ability?!?!
They seem to have downsized some of the venues on this tour. They played a room at Newcastle University a couple of years back and it sounded like it was too big and part of the room was partitioned off leading to a poor experience. The Cluny has been a regular North East venue for them.Yes, a really lively, upbeat combo !
They are on at the Cluny on Dec. 5th, thought they could play a bigger venue, at say the Boiler Shop ?
I'm really looking forward to seeing them at the Cluny, as it's a cracking venue. They seem to have downsized some of the venues on this tour. Aye, I told off Mensi a few times because he had a Lads top on at Upstarts gigs -I’d question why they feel the need to play to the crowd in that way, aye. It’s all a bit patronising. Let their music do the talking.
Be class man - unless you need to travel down, arrange yer kip etc etcI only remembered this morning when seeing the data on my laptop that I'm seeing Idles at Ally Pally this coming Saturday. Booked it ages ago when a bit in me cups, and have mixed feelings now!
The fella that actively went to Sunderland matches? That one?Aye, I told off Mensi a few times because he had a Lads top on at Upstarts gigs -I didn’t appreciate being patronised!
Really doesn’t bother me in the slightest. The music stands up whatever they are wearing. Even Derek Smalls in his Shrews top.The fella that actively went to Sunderland matches? That one?
Or are we talking about the kid from Bristol who wore a Man Utd top on the telly for Soccer AM a couple of years ago?
Regardless, football shirts on stage are sad as fuck.
