Forthcoming gigs.

I've heard worse ,way worse but the whole student clothes, lowping around ,swinging guitars about thing was a bit too much for me
Yeah - far better having 5 men standing still behind their mics going through the motions rather than a band who appear to enjoy themselves on stage ………
The bass player has worn one quite regularly in the past. Pretty certain he’s from Bristol way, but supports them.

Who else wore one?
Bass player and the hairy guitarist, mores the pity

having the crowd sing f*** the King then wearing shirts advertising a murderous homophobic misogynist set of c**** seemed a tad hypocritical to me

still thoroughly enjoyed it mind, great fun sitting up top watching the young'uns enjoy themselves

Not the one that wears the dresses?!

The bass player has worn the shirt for a while, so I’ll give the sad bastard the benefit of the doubt. However if it’s the other guitar player I’m thinking of, it’s a shit picture, but it looks like he’s wearing a Man Utd away top on Soccer AM

I’ll bot be whiter than white in the whole football has no place in music thing, but putting a special shirt on to play to the crowd kind of puts doubts on your ability as a musician to have the crowd where you want them because of your talent.

Not sure why the photo isn’t showing for me. Cant be arsed, you’ll have to trust me

Hope you caught the support, Gitkin. Really enjoyable.

Ages since I've been here, had forgotten what a good venue it is. Great drinks options now, couple of Full Circle and loads of that lager stuff. Well staffed, too.

We caught the last 10mins...really good. Same for me...really good venue and the sound was really good pretty much wherever you were. Only disappointment was the bar closing at 10pm!

Idles were really good, excellent live band.

But aye, the Mag top craic was frustrating like. Also find it funny that they're railing against Toxic Masculinity in a lot of their songs (which is, obviously, a good thing) but the audience was about 95% young, very angry looking, white fellas smashing off each other in the most aggressive manner possible.

In the American HC punk scene of the early 1980s, bands like Minor Threat and Black Flag used to rail against similar things but also used to get mainly young, white, male audiences slam dancing very aggressively

Was class mate we were saying on the way out that back in the day that would have been carnage, gangs from different parts of the uk as well as a mix of punks and skins. There was always a buzz going to gigs a bit like running the gauntlet it’s just not there anymore suppose everyone’s just older.
Fukkin crakkin night though
Ah, I meant Jason Isbell!

  • Haha
Reactions: GTG
I didn't bother going to see Idles this time around. Seen them plenty of times in the past and not really listened to their newest album.

Did notice also something I posted about Fontaines DC regarding the fan base changing, same seems to be happening to them. Just judging by some of the attendees on my social media.

The footage I saw seemed as though the crowd was pretty flat/dead? I assume it went off on the usuals like Danny Nedelko etc.

Yeah, I guess that's just the way it goes. Guitar bands tend me to predominantly be followed by young white lads (of which i'm part of that demographic, albeit maybe not young anymore), and suppose the type of music lends itself to people smashing themselves about everywhere. Just an odd one, because the dancefloor looked like a giant ball of toxic masculinity and radgie-ness.

Maybes I'm just getting old - the thought of being where everyone was throwing themselves about fills me with absolute dread.

Amyl & the Sniffers the other day had a load of lasses in the crowd like. Obviously helped by a batshit mental front women who without even saying it is flying the flag for strong women.

I think us older codgers who refuse to pack in seeing bands are making good numbers at these shows
I suppose the young bands would like to look out at a room of young fans but it's us attending in numbers

I’m usually the youngest out of my lot at 40. Amyl & the Sniffers there was a couple in their 30s.

I am starting to take my daughters to suitable venues where she’s allowed in. Got the Young’uns & Futureheads coming up at the Fire Station & Mary Wallopers at the City Hall in the new year. All in the seats at the side.

Off to Liverpool to see The Script tonight. It’s not quite the same since Mark died but Danny’s a very endearing front man. They Always put on a good live show.

Both good live bands. Well worth seeing.
Yup, I've seen them both before

Well at nearly 59 years old and 45 years of gigging I'm not ready to give up, whether it's a young band or old, i love it tbh.

Isbel was amazing mate, last of my kind blew me away man. It’s up there with as good as it gets. I knew he was good but I didn’t really appreciate how good musically he was. I had tickets for him in the paradiso in the dam pre Covid and never got, that’s my favourite all time music venue but I was well impressed with the globe as a venue mind i thought it was superb, obviously spent a lot of money on it.

Therefore if any band plays our home town and one of them wears a SAFC shirt on stage we should dismiss their musical ability?!?!

Yes, nice venue. Saw him in Manchester maybe 2 years ago and Birmingham before that. This was superb. The double drumming blew my mind and the guitar during King of Oklahoma was superb.

Nope crowd were well up for it. Audience were well-mixed for an Idles gig - I would have said more mature males predominated but plenty of youngsters of both sexes too.

Load of oldies round me, stage front left.
