Passing on tickets to gain points

There seems to be a lot of people with high points getting away tickets and passing them on.
I went to watch Ferencvaros in Hungary a couple of years ago and to obtain a ticket you have to be a member, it’s easy enough to do,you turn up at the ticket office, fill in the form and they scan your thumb print. ( costs about 50p) and you can buy a match ticket at the same time.
Then everytime you buy a ticket it has your seat number on, but you need your membership card to gain access using your thumb print, therefore you can’t pass your ticket on.. it was set up to stop away fans from entering the home end and people with bans gaining entry…. Great idea.

An idea needs to be formed that’s for sure.

But was that a home game for them? Do the away grounds they visit have the technology? What is their average attendance for a time scale of scanning?

I have 77 points now,and I’ve only once sold away tickets- I actually gave them away as long as the buyer took my seats on supporter bus- so he was known to some people I knew. No way on earth I’m risking my points on a stranger just to get 1 more when the worst consequence could be losing the lot when It’s cost me a small fortune to build mine and the bairn up from zero!

Unfortunately the club think getting a Facebook page closed down has solved the problem

The only fix I see is ID checks being introduced but that isn't going to happen

I think a non transferable mobile ticket makes it more doable. Ticketmaster for gigs have live/moving qr codes and tickets are only transferable to an email address. If we implemented that type of ticketing(again grounds would need technology) as soon as transferred off an account holder the point is lost

Yeah that's an option but highly unlikely given my experience with our ticket office

Also I assume it would rely on opposing clubs having the technology rather than us

Nothing can be done about it until ID checks are performed either at the turnstile or we change the way we sell tickets altogether. For example, Birmingham now reserve 2/300 tickets that they’ve sold and randomly select people via email to meet at the ground of the away game to pick their tickets up with ID. Naturally, it puts people off giving their number out because you could be selected for a random ID check. That’s about as good as it’ll get in the EFL I think.

It'll be interesting to see how they implement an ID check with the 100s of tickets that go to players families and friends, club staff and the piles of tickets that just get given to the owners of the executive boxes to pass on, no questions asked

But I assume they do not get loyalty points which is the logic behind the ID point

Just select some from each point bracket, get in touch with the ticket purchaser to advise them to take ID to the ground and collect their ticket

Our supporter branches would cease to exist overnight if the club started pursuing this. Thousands left without transport or having to pay £250 for trains.
Two wrongs don't make a right though as branches should only get tickets for the actual person who is going rather than just using their number

The vast majority of high pointers do go to every game home and away, it will only affect those who want to continue to collect points but only go to Hull, Boro, Leeds etc.

Technology is moving on all the time. 10 years ago who’d have thought we’d have season tickets on our phones

And before that it was a pad of paper and you tore a page off each week and gave it to the turnstile person

This shit again…

As a start, how about people police themselves in the interest of fairness to the wider fanbase, and simply stop doing this? I realise that's a tall order and wishful thinking, but essentially this is a fan problem, rather than a club problem, especially since there's no easy way for the club to do anything about it.

It wouldn't fix it completely, and selfish behaviour will always happen, but if more people called it out when they see it happening, rather than going along with it, we'd see some improvement at least.

Nice idea. But the general public is only out for themselves these days.

Mind you, you say it’s not a club problem but they could at least try and ask for a full stand at places like Blackburn and Sheff Weds (probs bad examples) instead of being restricted to 2200 tickets.
