*~*~* Luton v Sunderland match thread *~*~*

Nonsense. The ball is travelling across the box. Nobody on the horizontal could have been on Patterson’s eyeline to the ball.

 so when a player goes for the ball in an offside position, to which the keeper is entitled to react with his positioning, that's NOT offside, he's not 'interfering with play'. If that were the case there would be dummy runs all over and it would be a different sport.

All half we were expecting Luton to stand and watch us take two touches and play lovely football. But they are on us in a split second.

Just too slow in the mind tonight. It needs short sharp passes. As Peter Reid would say.
Exactly this.

Their press is brutal. We need some confidence and movement in the middle to get around it, then look to Mundle, Rigg and Isodor.

Just humping it at the front three is playing straight into their hands.

Roberts struggled in his last game and rightly gets criticism for his end product. But he is very press resistant. The type of player with his low centre kg gravity and skill who can wriggle away from them and play it inside to someone, then Luton are having to run back the other way.
