How many times did we have 60,000 plus at Roker ? Listen to some it was a regular occurrence , I was there that the last 5 in early 60 s , From 1945 to 60 there was only 10 . After the near disaster against Manchester United in 64 where nobody knows how many got in ground there where no more 60,000 plus gates at Roker

I'm not sure how or why. I assume they mean we would have to remove seats at the back of the stand rather than add extra space above the existing seats.

Personally I think if we did increase hospitality and reduce normal seat capacity that would be a bad thing but I'm looking at it from a supporter pov and not a business sense.

I imagine the plan would be to build up but with extra hospitality boxes etc, were there would have been seats. So instead of 12k extra seats, there would be 8k extra seats.

You could say that about most teams though.... football is more popular than ever.

It's a tough one imo. If season ticket prices stay the same you are paying more per game. Personally would be happy to pay a little more but we shouldn't really have to until we started kicking on in the prem.

That would be fair enough.

I thought they meant remove existing seats to make more space for corporate / hospitality boxes but if not then all good.

That might make sense in the North Stand. They can't sell the seats at the front anyway, so replace the seating space with boxes.

I think we had 50000 plus against West Ham in 1980. Im saying that if the police would allow more away fans and we were in the premier league we could get 50000 plus regularly. Especially if they made the ticket prices more reasonable. The atmosphere would be great with more away fans in as well. The problem is that some clubs can’t behave themselves
 
I think if we did increase the south stand and we were in the premier league then I think there’d be an argument for moving away fans down to the north lower. Put extra hospitality/corporate in the east stand.

I don't believe that mind. I'd imagine it would involve removing the back 3/4 rows and doing it the same as the boxes in the SW corner with scope to expand above in the future if it's needed.

There'll be no upper tier anytime soon imo. It's simply not needed.

There's certainly a case from a matchday customer experience though.

I totally understand Murray wanting the stadium built for as little as possible, else it may not have been built at all. Now though, if the money is there, I'd love to see plans to widen the concourses, more toilets and better bars and catering.

For older fans, women and children, it is far from an enjoyable experience.

The people that sit there aren't going to want to go and sit in the front of the north stand or the north West upper.

You are saying there's no need but removing the back 3/4 rows would create a need for it.

Extending all the way around will give them an opportunity to build a proper away end, 2 tiers so we aren't losing loads of seats. Building on the south West corner would be the best way to do it. And we even be able to give away fans some hospitality boxes. Would be off camera for all the people that care about what we look like on camera. I'd love to see the roker stand extended like the Tottenham hotspur south stand where it's all one and then boxes all the way round the east/north/west stands would mean concerts can be done without losing any hospitality boxes and a huge stand to boost atmosphere right next to the away fans.

And the south and east stand extension should be made so the current concourse can be massively extended.

An absolute pipe dream but would be a perfect stadium.

We wouldn't though, especially once the original novelty wore off. The attendances would obviously increase, but we have a lot of die-hard fans who will attend come what may and most the people who would want season tickets will already have them now.

Like it or not, Sunderland will never attract the "tourists" like London or Manchester clubs can. We are in the wrong part of the country for that and the City's other attractions will never be a match for those places.

We do get support from Ireland and there's a lot come over on the ferry from Germany and Holland. Just a smaller scale to those you mention.

Our concourses are very small for the size of the ground due to the sunken bowl. They would definitely benefit from being extended outwards. The problem is any owners are just going to look at the financial side of things. They don't visit the main concourses on a matchday and won't appreciate just how bad it is.

That's a pipe dream though haha.

Honestly if I was guessing what they really will do. I'd guess they'll scrap the Black Cats bar and convert that into boxes but not stop there. Continue doing more boxes curving around into the North East corner similar to what it does in the South West corner all served from the hospitality space saved from the Black Cats bar.

Wouldn't cost much and you'd gain a good 15 or so boxes with minimum people moved bar the back few rows of the NE Corner but I don't believe there's many season ticket holders up there anyway.
