SOL expansion

Once residential plots are occupied in the Sheepfolds you can kiss goodbye to future expansion. From that point of view it makes sense to do something quickly. From a footballing point of view there's no buisness case for expanding. It's at the point the ownership has to decide to stick or twist, probably on behalf of future ownership.

May as well extend it like, we could always just, you know, close bits off that don’t get used. Never understood this “ground is too big” shite. Build it and they will come.

Plus the walk to the stadium from over the city centre, toward a massive south stand terrace would be pretty spectacular and really put us on the map.

Would like to see the south stand extended into a massive single tier. No extra seats added to east stand apart from boxes and big hospitality area.
Could we even build it that way? I know the stadiums built in a way it's easy for them to build round like the north stand but could they actually change the design like that fairly easy?

For there to be a real case for expansion we'd need regular pl football and probably challenging top half. Wouldn't make sense to do it otherwise

The stadium expansion won't encroach on the residential plots

This.

Am I missing something here? 😂

It’s simple. We are getting 40k in the championship. It’ll be up towards 45k as the season goes on if we continue our promotion push. We’ll sell out when we get to the prem, we also don’t have enough boxes and hospitality facilities available for the prem. We also need these things for gigs so we don’t miss out on the bigger events. Extending it to about 55,000 and adding more hospitality makes perfect sense.

I like your optimism, but we don’t need to extent the ground at all.

People wanting the ground expanded must be either pissed or simply haven’t a clue.

We’ve sold out the ground entirely about once or twice in three years.

For there to be a business case for it, it would have to be getting regularly sold out on a game by game basis for at least a few seasons. Not happened in over twenty year. That in turn would realistically mean challenging at least in the middle of the prem on a consistent basis at the very least. Twaddling about at the bottom of the PL as we did for most of the short years only averaged no more than 40k.

Add onto all of that, current materials costs (particularly steel) are at an astronomical high, as are plant and labour costs. The north stand cost £7m to extend almost 25 years ago, factor in the above and general inflation ffs.

It’s never going to happen under this ownership, let’s be honest.

The costs wouldn’t make sense, I’d imagine with building costs as they are now building onto the ground with the way costs are would be more expensive than the total outlay for the full build and north stand extension. Let’s walk before we can run eh, I’d love for it to wrap round the artist impression of the brick work all the way around the ground always looked f***ing mint. Sadly I don’t think we’ll ever see it.
